Just looked at the latest standings in the qualifying for the Ryder Cup and its looks to me like Justin Rose could be in trouble and relying on a Captains Pick to get in. He's shown no form this year and is on a steady slide down the rankings
He needs to get his backside in gear sometime soon or he may miss out.
Faldo's going to have his work cut out to make 2 picks from the numbers of high profile players who don't look like they're going to qualify. I know there is a long way to go and 1 big win may be enough but there are going to be some high profile people missing - and I don't mean Tiger....

Been very dissapointing to me Justin, aint really put up much of a fight at all. Dissapeared early in the Masters and again at the USOPEN. And I backed him aswell. In his current form will he really be a great loss? Compared to his best form I think he will be, but for the moment, I'm not sure!

There could be a lot of newbies in both squads this year. This may be a good thing, leading to a good close competition with no baggage. Leading to the right result, of course.

I don't think Rose will be there on form or as a pick. I'm not sure so many rookies is a good thing especially away from home. I'd like to see a team with as many players who have played in US Ryder cups as possible as I fear "rabbits in headlight syndrome" for the youngsters/rookies especially on the last day

I am quietly confident that Rose will win an event before the Ryder cup and secure his place. Even though he hasn't been at his best he has still played some excellent golf at stages. In my opinion he would definitely be a loss to the team.

Rose is Mr Mechanical with a Leadbetter built swing. He doesn't have the bottle to finish off a tournament. When the heat is applied he tends to melt away. He now relies heavily on the gibberish of Nick Bradley and various mind coaches to get him ready to play.
He is typical of the modern pro who gets a perfect swing built for him, works hard on physical conditioning in the gym but alas the most important asset for a golfer i.e. the mind, is not strong enough so he cracks in high pressure situations. Mental toughness can't really be taught, you've either got it ot you haven't. All great champions have great strength of mind. Talking to Bob Rotella or whomever will only get you so far.
I don't think he'd be a good Ryder Cupper at all, don't pick him Nick.

Rose is of the TW mould but without the ability; plays for himself but can't see him as being any good in a team situation. Since he's not playing well enough leave him out.

Unfortunately the same can be said of a lot of the current crop and too many of the 'old faithfuls' have fallen by the wayside. I am worried!

If the 'old faithfuls' aren't playing well, it would be stupid to pick them on reputation. Step forward Mclaren and Ericsson to prove this point.
It would be difficult to leave out Rose as he is the current order of merit winner. Whether he would be an asset to the team, who knows. May be he is a team player, and will rise to the occasion ala Monty.
I think the make up of the team will be the most interesting for ages, as there don't appear to be that many shoe ins this time.
After Karlsson, Stenson, Westwood, Harrington, Jimenez and Garcia (most of whom still need to do more to be an automatic pick), there do not seem to be that many players who are on form enough to make a difference, and we need another 6.

It was interesting to hear Colin Montgomerie say in an interview before his round in the BMW today that he feels the Americans will do better without Tiger Woods. Everyone else knows it but I was surprised he admitted the fact, he said how the Americans struggle to gel because of all showing too much respect for Tiger and seeing him as a figure of authority rather than a team mate. He also said and truly meant that he would hold no grudges against any one if he didn't make the team (something he said was extremely unlikely unless he wins a tournament soonish) and only wish them good luck.

Umm.....I don't think so....David helps Justin now, but wasn't in the frame in the early days......

Justin does not have a pure D.L. swing...

Other than this, I agree with you 100%, he hasn't got the nerve/mental strength. He's like Monty was, strong in Europe week to week, but struggles to face the big guns.

I thought he was coached by Nick Bradley now, he was with Leadbetter for a good while before that, his swing now is much different to the one he had as a 17 year old finishing 4th in the Open, so Leadbetter has definitely shaped it.

So who does have a pure DL swing? Faldo is the most obvious case for me. I think J.Rose and Charles Howell of the current crop have typical Leadbetter swings.

I would like to see Kaymer and Edfors as well as Rose in the team. They can really shoot low scores in 1 round and that's what is called for in matchplay. Dont think Montie will be an asset for the team in current form but he still has 3 month to recover from his recent slump. C'mon Montie!
