Any shocks in this or is it likely to be Thomas Bjorn and McGinley ? Not sure I'd find either of them particularly inspiring. Some talk on the radio this morning that Philip Price might be in with a shout to tick the welsh box.

Agree - a very strong back-room team. All three vice-captains are well respected and have played in winning Ryder Cup teams so will bring lots of experience and provide sound advice to the rest of the team.

I like the look of that backroom team, all seem to be good drinkers so the after party will be lively as well!!

Great choice by Monty. Delighted to see DC picked. He will bring passion to the team, ehich i think europe lacked under Faldo.

McGinley is well respected and did a fine job captaining the GB&I team in the last Seve Trophy.

Vice Captains, bloomin ridiculous. Pavin has 4, reckons he needs a man with every doubles match - to do what exactly?? Walk round shouting 'get in da hole' I presume.

Monty's got 3 VC's - what are their roles? - are they supposed to go round and check everyone's tucked up in bed by 10pm, bring the players warm milk and read them a bedtime story? Dear oh dear.

Advise players/teams on where they're going wrong? There's 1000's of people cheering the home team on, why do they need Monty's back ups to tell them anything? If you're playing crap you're playing crap. Any of us club golfers know how to cover eachother in a foursome or order to play in a fourball for advantage, it's not rocket science.

These are professional golfers who do this week in week out, they certianly don't need playing advice off Captains and VC's do they.

Captain needs to make a couple of speeches and pick the pairs, be strong on the decisions and get his boys up for it, that's it, end of.

What a circus!

Birdieman do you not think it is good for Monty to have men to see exactly how his troops are performing rather than rely on what little he would be able to see himself or rely on Westwood saying ''aye I played well' when in reality he has chopped it around!

I think the more eyes on the ground the better instead of doing a Seve and flying around trying to see exactly how things are going.

I would think you as a decent golfer would appreciate that the Captains job is a tough one especially when they are out there playing and you are trying to make your picks for the afternoon.....Casey may win in the morning Fourballs when in reallity it has been down to Westwood shooting 9 under when Casey has been 3 over so picking Casey for the afternoon could be a huge mistake.....how would Monty know this if he aint had anyone watching to tell him of facts like this??

The players would say if they were playing poorly. Only the player knows how he's striking it. Also how many times has a player played poorly of a morning just to go out in the afternoon and play great.
Surely a Captain and his 12 players is enough.
Personally I think the whole thing is getting way OTT.

There is a 50/50 chance of either side winning, that's the nature of doubles golf in particular, just turn up and play, enjoy it. For singles as has been proved at the WGC and World Matchplay that over 18 holes any pro golfer can prevail on any given day, it doesn't really follow form. Samuel Ryder's intention must have been for a more amiable, low key exhibition of good matchplay golf.
I don't understand why so much onus is put upon the RC by the media in particular. 3 or 4 vice captains is getting plain daft imo.

I think if it was me I would be tempted to be economical with the truth on how I HAD actually played if I was desperate to redeem myself......believe me I have seen it at our lowly league level.....Screwback gets humped 5&4 and he claims to have played well but the guy got up and down out of ballwashers and holed everything he looked at when in reality he was 6 over when put to bed! :D ;)

not really :o

CIRCUS thats just what it is. How much money does this cost? Kitting out all the players all the backroom staff and then there's the wags. It must cost a furtune............ Get back to the good old ways of doing things. If Monty needs 3 old Pro's to tell him who to pick, then Monty isn't the man to be captain
