Should Europe allow USA to include Rest of the World players into their team in the same way as GB&I added Europe??
It all getting a little easy.

It may be tongue in cheek but another away win or 2 and US interest could drop significantly. We are only Europe and not GB and I because we could not win

I like the idea of the Seve trophy trying to become a bigger event although as it is at the moment is perfect preparation for incumbent Ryder Cup captains to get some experience. Would the ROW be interested as they already have a match v the US

I'm sure they would! The presidents cup is all very well but I bet they'd like to test themselves against the best!

:whoo: :smirk: :whoo:

How many USA supporters across - not that many - does it really matter that much to US sports fans. Maybe that itself doesn't matter if we Europeans like it.

Completely agree. I think a comfortable victory for Europe in the next one in the US could mean the US may lose interest in it and treat it like they treat The Presidents Cup. Which would be a big blow as sport is only interesting if it is a proper competition.

Both teams and fans have to care about it to make it worth watching as a sporting event. Otherwise it just becomes the golfing equivalent of a testimonial.

I rather agree. If US sports fans give up on the US team then they might not bother to watch and wither then the US TV coverage and money. Dunno. Just so very noticeable the lack of US fans across from the States - more New Zealanders come across for All Blacks tours of UK.

the biggest problem could be the american tv networks, golf is way down on their list to televise and now the U.S team has been beaten again they could lose interest,we look forward to it because it is one of the few major world wide sports we host, look at the crowds football and baseball get week in and week out not to mention basketball, they have several motor sport events weekly that dwarf F1 for numbers, the american people like winners and they could well lose interest in a losing side and the crowds dwindle, would they accept foreign players joining their team no is the answer we could even have players refusing to play because the stain on their records if on a losing side could effect their sponsors, money talks in the states and if the money isnt there it will stop becoming a spectacle and will eventually fail.

I just think the European team take it more seriously on a long term basis. I have no doubt that once they get to the venue, the US players want to win it as much as the Europeans do. But the Europeans have a very good succession planning process in place where the captain has usually been a vice captain, captained in the Seve Trophy and they know the ins and outs of it and have been immersed in it.

Where as the US seem to give the captaincy on more of a random basis. No doubt Tom is a legend, but he only had 3 vice captains, so they could not even have one for each match out on the course. Plus 2 of them were in their 60s and 70s, so they would have a lot of difficulty relating to young players.

Listening to Radio 5 there seems to be a few splits in the US team, with rumours of some questioning of Toms captaincy starting already. Big Phil is currently singing the praises of Paul Azinger in the press conference and how he had a great game plan. The last captain to win for the US. It doesn't take much to read into what he is saying. This is kind of understandable as they got beat, but to me it looks like the US players are a bit frustrated with the situation.

By the way, I am liking Nick Dougherty on Sky, very good pundit, makes a lot of great points.

Get the feeling that Watson is being hung out to dry so as the US golfers protect their own images

Though Watson did thank friends and colleagues etc for the support he'd had over the last couple of months - implying that's how long he'd been doing his detailed thinking and planning - when I get the impression that McGinley has been doing that for the last 2 yrs.

Probably some truth in that.

I suspect that players will have a lot more choice of the captain in the future now. Rory has already said he want DC to captain the team in the US, so I'll bet a pound to a penny he will be chosen. As like it or not, The Ryder Cup needs the likes of the big stars of the game like Rory and Sergio than they need the Ryder Cup. So they need to keep them sweet.

Just seen Mickleson on SSN being ultra critical. Very disappointing to be that vocal publicly that soon after the final putt dropped and surely something that could have been discussed behind closed doors first

Real shame that, not seen it myself but the USA normally come across to me as much less of a team as Europe

As mentioned more worried about their profile than the score

Was it Hunter who once said 'I don't see what all the fuss is about it is not like you get paid'
