Wow,

what at a complete PR disaster this is turning into for Ryanair.

customers stranded as they have cancelled flights at short notice, refunds only no other way of getting to destinations.

60-80 flights a day cancelled for the next month.

thats a lot of lost customers that they are never going to get back.

Jet2, Norwegian, EasyJet and BA must be loving this.

cant see me booking with them if that's the way to treat customers.

Bizarrely, they'll save a fortune by not having flights run late because of the staffing shortage. Cheaper to cancel the flight and refund the fare than run late flights and have to pay compo.

This is bad, even for Ryanair and they set the benchmark for bad service. I hope long term they pay badly for this. I feel for the people who have been cancelled.

I thought they were cancelling them in order to meet their specified target of 90% landing on time. Which is a bit rich as they seem to think it takes 3 hours to fly to Paris and then congratulate themselves when they make it in under that time. Always try and avoid them mostly our of principle, although most of the others seem to have gone down to their level nowadays. Was impressed with Jet2 when I used them recently

Hk, you are right. They are claiming that there are too many pilots with holidays due and so by cancelling lots of flights their on time % will rise. There is something ironic about it as everyone whose flight gets cancelled will automatically be late getting to where they want to be.

It's not just them though. I regularly fly with KLM and they do the same. Flying Norwich to Schiphol it's always scheduled as either a 50 or 55 minute flight. Once onboard the captain comes on the radio and says "Our flying time today is 35 minutes".

yes but its the taxiing around before and after, then queueing to take off and getting in the stack etc,

if you go to the cinema it says running time 120 minutes, but you know 20 minutes of that is adverts at the front and at least 5 minutes playout /credits music at the back.

Do Norwich Airport still use planes with big rubber bands and outside toilets? :)

My tart booked flights with them a week or so ago for half term week, they will be advising of any cancellations a week before we fly.

So potentially a sold out flight could be cancelled a week before and any refunds could take Upto a week. Which leaves very little time to re-organise a flight to our destination where we've already booked accommodation for. Grim.

The Swindle are going to Portugal this week and flying back from Faro with Ryanair- they have no idea if the flight will be on or not ! It's a disgraceful situation and they should face sanctions.

But it's not going to make a blind bit of difference to them - people will still fly with them because they are that cheap

I'll be honest I don't like going with them but the flights suited us even though they were dearer than easyJet .

My other worry is if they cancel our return flight whilst we're away.

They've been treating their staff like something you scrape off your shoe for years, hopefully its finally coming back to bite them on the backside. I've heard some real horror stories about them from people in the industry, I would be worried for my safety flying with them.

Never would choose to use them but due to go on a stag do to Portugal on Thursday and the guys organising booked through Ryanair. Made sure I got travel insurance sorted.

Yes this has potential to bite myself as well , we are booked on a flight back into the UK in six weeks time but as they are not letting people know upfront we will be away not knowing if our return flight is on or not . We cannot cancel our outward and hotel as they are nothing to do with this so we would loose a lot of money and there doesn't seem to be any flights back on the dates we need . We gotta suck it and see . Feel really sorry for any young families caught out in this , as adults we can put up with a bit of disruption at an airport but to have kids around as well it must be a nightmare for them .

I find it absolutely ridiculous that they are allowed to do this. They are also still taking bookings for potential cancelled flights. They should be forced to provide a list of all the cancelled flights so that people can make other arrangements. They should also be liable to any penalties that people face because of it.

My partner has just booked two return flights to Italy in October the day before they mentioned the cancellations. Luckily she hadn't booked hotels and has now booked refundable rooms. Her mum is also due to fly with Ryanair to Brussels from Dublin on Thursday, the Tuesday flight has been cancelled...

I personally have never had an issue with Ryanair and actually find they do fill a place in the market but this is crazy and they should pay for it.
