We are playing 36 holes at Ganton next week ( dream time) and the next day we have 18 at Fulford.

There are 12 of us and I am running The Auction where each player has the opportunity to bid for another and the player you have bid for has the opportunity to buy 50% of his own bid.

The auction will start in reverse order from the scores at Ganton.

I want to make as much money as possible and know something about all the players'. Any tips e.g. keep it short , humour or otherwise, highlight their positives.

Cheers

I was wondering that too DCB.

That post is like a round in the Kryptron factor

Ok guys. If you have never done this before it is perhaps sound too complicated.

WE are playing golf and I the players will be auctined for their scores the next day at Fulford. I want to extract the most money for the bids. Any suggestions?

Youl need a bit of info on them all, bit of craic With a serious side mentioning the charity & it good work etc. ie now its Seans turn, he shot 41pts last outing ..as the bids come in then drop in something like.. mind you that was over 36 holes & off the reds , if possible bring the player been auctioned up front & get them in on the banter , works better AFTER a skinful tho ha ha .. if your having a raffle dont sell tickets just get people to write their name on a£5/£10 etc & draw that ,

Um, this is against the rules of golf, which forbid auction style events.

Consequently, any one who agrees to play in it is breaking the rule which disallows breaking of rules. This leads to disqualification for all concerned.

Happy to help.

You are I am afraid incorrect Sir.

The auction is for the 12 players who played the first day and any money will be split in prizes . It is not a charity auction which I have never mentioned.

Maybe you should come along to our pub in Yorkshire and disqualify us!1 There are some pretty big guys and they will have had afew bevvies.

Look forward to the meet

There are 12 guys going away playing golf.

Kindly let me know where it says we cannot have an Auction.

If it does I stand corrected.

However we will be having one I am afraid.

Please do not report us

Sorry i might have thrown people the WRONG way regarding charity .. apologies..the once i have seen this was on a charity day , 3OT never mentioned charity , surely if it not an official golfing union comp then you can have what you want, say if our society decided to do this, who are we answerable to ?? just asking coz i wasnt aware we would be answerable to any one ,,

I will post the page number when I find a rule book on Monday.

Whilst I don't really care one way or the other what you do, the rules are the rules, and once you start making them up, where does it stop? There is no point in insisting on following certain rules and ignoring those which are inconvenient. At that point you have invented a new game, similar to golf, but not golf.

Seriously........ Does anyone really give a flying fook what a group of guys away on a jolly do?? Have fun and I hope you raise some decent cash.

As long as they no longer take part in any amateur competitions, I am sure no one will care at all!

Unacceptable Forms of Gambling
Other forms of gambling or wagering where there is a requirement for
players to participate (e.g. compulsory sweepstakes) or that have the
potential to involve considerable sums of money (e.g. calcuttas and
auction sweepstakes – where players or teams are sold by auction)
are not approved.
Otherwise, it is difficult to define unacceptable forms of gambling or
wagering precisely, but features that would be consistent with such
gambling or wagering include:
• participation in the gambling or wagering is open to non-players;
and
• the amount of money involved is generally considered to be
excessive.
An amateur golfer’s participation in gambling or wagering that is not
approved may be considered contrary to the purpose and spirit of the
Rules (Rule 7-2) and may endanger his Amateur Status.
Furthermore, organised events designed or promoted to create cash
prizes are not permitted. Golfers participating in such events without
first irrevocably waiving their right to prize money are deemed to be
playing for prize money, in breach of Rule 3-1.
Note: The Rules of Amateur Status do not apply to betting or
gambling by amateur golfers on the results of a competition limited to
or specifically organised for professional golfers.

That's page 179 of the rules - the section covering amateur status.

Many thanks for that, however I already own one.. I can even read it too.. Now if I could only find a link to a book entitled " how to lighten the tut tut up and pull the giant stick out of my ass", I would point you towards it..

I love it, whenever something like this occurs, the people who break the rules, try to make the people who don't, feel like they are the ones in the wrong.

No one is stopping anyone from doing anything, but this is yet another example of people asking others for an opinion when they already have made up their mind on the matter, not getting the answer they hoped for, and then lashing out about it.
