Yes, you can play anytime after dark and sent a tenner to Del Trotter, Nelson Mandela ............

My understanding is that Merton residents are entitled to play it for a discounted fee on specific days

i just wanted to know the exact conditions before I try it

It's a Monday, it might be the first Monday of the month. You are only entitled to play, not use facilities etc. they try to make it difficult and you are not allowed to be a member elsewhere either

Thanks - how can you have a handicap (which they require) if you are not a member elsewhere?

Just wondering if anyone has actually played on this basis.

It might be that you can't be a member of a club within Merton. Although I'm not sure and I don't know how they'd police that.
One of our guys played a few years ago (I'm a member of Wimbledon common) and he was on the putting green minding his own business when the pro approached him to ask what he was doing. Having a bit of a put before my round. No sir, we are obliged to let you play, this doesn't extend to facilities. Apparently left a bit of a sour taste in his mouth.

It's a nice course, I've played it a few times but having played Coombe Hill last year, that's far superior. Worth trying to play there if you can

Lol. The phrase "Win this car" springs to mind.

The facilities are top notch. If the membership was the other way around (you were allowed use facilities but not course) I'd be delighted, not that there's anything wrong with it it's a lovely track and well looked after, but for the money there are probably better courses. That story about the pro on the practice green says it all. They are obliged.

Yeah. Snooty much?!

It use to be first Monday of the month, you needed to make prior arrangement and be able to prove you were a resident of Merton. Not sure there was a restriction on being a member of another course in the Merton area. I use to play it a lot when I was up at Wimbledon Common. Great course.

You don't know how close to the truth you are. They hate letting anyone anywhere near the place. This Merton resident thing goes back a long way and they can't seem to overturn it and so they go out of the way to make the process as painful as possible. If they could stipulate set playing hours including darkness RWGC would
