Has anyone Played it?

Im thinking about playing an Open there on sat' 29th June and although its rated highly I have read some mixed reviews and the drive is actually further than I thought, So Im just initially looking for some recommendations really.

I might look at playing Conwy the following day. I'll be going down there with a mate if we book it but anyone is welcome to join us. Currently plenty of Teetimes.

If we go ahead I'll put something in arrange a game.

It's a real marmite course. I made the long drive up to play it a few years ago based on reviews and recommendations but I was very disappointed. It is very tough due to the width of the fairways and brutal rough but I thought it a bit featureless. It is very flat, the only holes in the dunes are 14-17 then it finishes with a weak par 3.

Probably worth going up if you are going to play other courses while you are up there but I wouldn't bother going just to play RSD.

Thanks for that d4s. It seems that at lot get drawn in by the setting and the castle overlooking etc, as much as its a great setting I wouldn't want to come away feeling dissapointed by the course as I could get to certain parts of Scotland in a similar time.

like you say it definately seems like a marmite course judging by other reviews. I usually look on the top 100 courses website but sometimes its hard to get a true review due to negative stuff being posted by members from neighbouring clubs etc.

I've just watched a video on YouTube of Mike Harris playing RSD and he seemed to rate it. Looking at other videos it does mostly look as flat as a pancake, but that probably wouldn't bother me so long as the holes had some definition.

Hello matey,

I played it twice the other year in the festival week. We made a long weekend of it and also took in Nefyn and Porthmadog. It is nice , but not worth a 3 hour drive on it's own IMHO.

If staying over and getting another knock in then fine. I would rate it not as good as West Lancs or even Hesketh, as an idea.

The surrounding mountains and scenery including the castle are nice, don't really see the sea. The 15th is a fantastic golf hole, not many other great stand out holes though. It is nice, but not great.

I played it last October, it was still suffering from the awful "summer" and many bunkers were GUR.

Not an easy course by any means and to score well you'll need to be on your A-game.
I agree that the 18th is a bit of a disappointment.

I enjoyed it though and you won't find many Top 100 courses costing less.

I really like the course, I think it really tests your game. The greens have been great every time I have played it.

Like you say some people love it and some hate it.

Make a long weekend of it and play a few other local courses if your having to travel a good distance.
