Hi Everyone! What does everyone else think about the R&A quickly coming out to squash the rumours about the Open going to Portrush, seems a little strange as we have seen with the Irish Open a couple of years ago was a massive success. What does everyone think on this is it just a matter of money? And no referring to it as the British Open! Cheers Todd

I don't have an opinion either way although I think the Open rota is fine as it is and don't see any reason to change it.

I'm all for having it at Portrush, went to the Irish Open there and it was class, traffic wasn't even that bad and it was a great event.

It just wont be the British Open then :whistle:

This is from an article on Sky Sports

It had been thought that Asia would be the most likely venue, but PGA of America president Ted Bishop said in November last year that he was interested in Portrush.

"Royal Portrush would be a great first international major," Bishop said.

"I think given the powerful effect that Irish golfers have on the professional game today, that might be a good place to start."

So we may see a major in Portrush, it just won't be the Open!

It'll go back there!

As R&A have stated though, there's a long way to go before it's confirmed - and when.

Won't stop the rumours though.

Will be interesting to see how Hoylake performs as it seems pretty much the 'weakest' both from course and logistics points of view.

The courses might be fine on the open rota as it is but there was empty grandstands last year at Muirfield. I cant imagine that there will be a ticket left if the open went over to Portrush.

Well Im pretty sure its not call the British Open now unless you're a yank commentator that is.... :) Its always and will be called The Open... anyway I personally would like to see more courses added to the list. Good for these Islands and golf as a whole to share the love and the fortunes. :)

The NI assembly are going to really back the Open coming to Portrush and I think we can all agree that with the Giro and the Irish Open it has proven that little old NI can support a major sporting event.

Combine that with the fact this area hosts the NW200 I think the logistics issues are over stressed espeacially with trains going straight to the area with a 10 minute walk to get to the course.

The hospitality is probably the main issue and the plans to address this by redesigning the 17th and 18th should take care of that. This would unfortunatley impact on the Valley course and probably force a movement of the 1st and the 2nd which is a great hole :(.

Can't see it being this decade but 2021 would be a nice way to mark 70 years.
