Wow, my first experience of a true links course and I doubt I will ever play a better one!
I had played sat and Sun in windy conditions at my club and not faired too well! So was hoping the wind would die down! It did in the morning but we didn't tee off till 2pm and it got steadily stronger until it was a good 20-30mph!

Tough tough tough! I played well on the front 9 scoring 16 points off 3/4 HC! Unfortunately I couldn't keep it up! I did manage a couple of decent up and downs out of those deep bunkers which was satisfying!
Me and my pp had 33 points and to show how tough it was the winners only had 38 and even the +1 duo only managed 36 !
I will now and try Nd out some photos!

Was up there in May , played Hillside next door and Formby Links , had a look at Birkdale and the rough was pretty bad as the Womens open was to be played there a little later , links tour , some nice ones in Kent at Princess where you can stay on the courses , ireland have some too , and of course scotland

good start but there are many at the same level and better

Depends which part you are in, but you certainly don't need to leave Kent to experience some pretty good ones!

Very true - although I'm in West Kent (Tonbridge, to be precise) my wifes family are from Broadstairs so I'm often down that way.

I've only played Princes of the links courses down there so far, but my neighbour is a member at Royal St Georges, so I might have to start dropping some hints....

Princes was my first Links experience - and I fell in love with it/them even before hitting a ball! RSG is rather more of a beast - the Carvery Lunch is top notch!

@OP They really don't get any better than RB, just slightly different styles.

Drop some hints for me too!

Interesting comment, which would you rate as better? I've played most of the top links and the only one better in my opinion is Royal County Down.

Birkdales a cracking course to pop your links cherry on Jack. Where you are there is a few belters around so this should have whet the appetite nicely.

Thanks Louise, it was a great day! I did like the high dunes that you had to negotiate on birkdale! Some of the flatter links I have seen look a bit boring to me. (St annes old links) I had reservations because of that, but no such thing at birkdale!
The long rough was brutal and if you found the ball it was difficult to shift it out at all! Which is why I had a few 'no scores'.
It was good to get back to back pars on the 6th and 7th and a couple of other along the way!!

I would like to have another crack at it without such a strong gusty wind and with a bit of practice but that's unlikely to happen!

Back to dodging trees and ponds then!!!
