After a great trip up to Royal Troon last week for an epic Open just wondered if any locals to Royal Birkdale (StuartC, LiverBirdie, etc.) fancied arranging a week up there next year to watch a few days golf & play some of the other tracks on the famed Golf Coast

I will be up there myself for hopefully the Saturday & Sunday, definitely interested in playing somewhere around there too!

I'd let the geographical complaints about Birkdale being nowhere near Inverness and Cornwall, so it's not fair, subside, then I'll give my tuppenorthworth.:)

Snell and myself are looking into going over to Birkdale next year for some golf and ale. I'll keep an eye on this thread.
I do know the Premier Inn in Southport is already fully booked up.

Think how bad it is for me, we never get any good links golf in the East Midlands

Probably the dates are not released yet for booking hence why it looks booked. I do know other areas aren't allowing booking that far out on the website. Keep you eye on it.

Keep our options open. Plenty of places to stay near a train station to get us to Southport for The Open & leave us free to drive to some decent tracks around the coast or inland.

I'm on the Fylde coast in Lytham (directly across the water from Southport, 45 mins drive maybe).

Happy to host anyone at my place if they're looking for a game around the time. I'll be going to one day of the Open, probably Friday, and will be getting the train from Preston.

Spoiled for choice re good courses up this neck of the woods, links, parkland, heathland, moorland etc. Whatever your preference there is something to suit

Golf aside this could be a great day out, we might even make it out onto the course and see some golf.
I'm in! The weekend will be rammed (Despite the game being in terminal decline due to the naughty people at Sky). Im voting Friday so I don't have to queue at the bar

I will probably be at the golf Thursday & Friday.

I will be looking to have a week of golfing between watching and playing so I'm sure we can set something up if there's plenty coming over.

There's loads of options of places to stay nearby for those travelling.

Might be worth setting up a meet for one of the days that week :D

Will be aiming to go on the Friday for sure.

Not exactly near but could host some @ Manchester GC around the time if you're travelling that way.

Would also love to play it this year. If anyone's interested PM me.

There is also one potential fly in the ointment in that Glyn is looking into a very good "other" option for next July, so could clash either side of the open - surely he wont pick open week. ;)

I'd suggest a meet at a very good course in the NW on the Friday (Delamere :D), go the open on the Saturday, night out afterwards in Liverpool. If some want to organise another meet on the Thursday etc, can do that with some stragglers.

I'd have also thought that not many deals would be to be had in the NW either side of the open, as they have a captive audience.
