The missus and I are toying with the idea of doing it for her 50th in a couple of years, has anyone done it and is it all it’s made up to be?
Yes, we’ve been watching the Hairy Bikers lol.

Haven't done that one, not sure I fancy it, but if you're both music lovers I'd recommend Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans as a memorable one. If you do, and you don't mind an early start from Memphis, you could ride the City of New Orleans which we did. ;)

Thanks mate, it does seem a very long way, a couple of thousand miles I believe. We’re also considering Brisbane to Melbourne (plus the Great Ocean Road) as an alternative.

We did the Pacific coast highway a couple of years ago , San Francisco to Los Angeles stopping all over the place .Not overly long but some spectacular scenery
and beautiful stopovers .

Its something I'd love to do at some point once the kids are old enough to be left at home for that long. Been watching Man V Food for some eaterie suggestions!

I haven't done Route 66, but have done several American road trips - I have done the whole of the west coast from Seattle to San Diego, much of the East coast and new England and planning 5 weeks to do Denver to Seattle this summer through the Rockies. There are some stunning scenic roads, and the miles are soooooo easy to drive. Do it, you won't regret it.

If you're open to alternatives I'd recommend the Garden Route along the south coast of South Africa. We flew to Johannesburg, then up to Kruger for 4 nights. Then flew down to the coast and drove to Cape Town. Stopped for 4 nights along the Garden Route and then had 4 nights in Cape Town.

Always wanted to do it on a Harley but never got round to it. Still have a hankering for a Harley but not to sit on it for 2 weeks solid.

I’ve watched the attached YouTube link a couple of times, dipping in and out not watching the full 2 hours.

Not done all the Route 66 but in 2017 we toured America for 5 weeks , fantastic holiday.

Loved America and the people we met.

Friend of mine done the whole 66 route on his moterbike.

Go for it ?

Blue in Munich gave me some great advice before we went especially about the music and New Orleans.

We traveled from east to west coast on Amtrack train was brilliant, then flew from Las Vegas to New Orleans, then up to Chicago by train again before flying home.
