Rotator Cuff Teninitis

Had tiny ace in my shoulder for a couple of weeks, no pain and barely noticeable. Then yesterday, with no trigger at all, it all of a sudden starts to REALLY hurt when I lift my arm up.

Just bee to the docs and have been diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinits. Doc said it should just go within a cuple of weeks and has prescribed some ani inflamatories and told me to try and keep the shoulder mobile, but not exert it

Guess I wont be playing the monthly medal on Saturday :(, as I can't swing a club (yes of course I've tried).

Has anyone had this and if so what are your experiences with recovery. And any recommendations for best way to get rid quick.

I doubt it, that's ringing in your ears. :)

You mean tendonitis.

Your rotator cuff is a tough old brute but once it starts to suffer it can be a world of pain, operations and never ever returning to normal especially if you don't treat it with the care it deserves.

Don't rush back from it and stick to what you're told or you could find yourself out of golf prematurely.
 
Advice I shall heed, although it will be very difficult seeing as I've only just joined a club after a 5+ year absence. Cheers, for the warning though.

And as for tinitus, I don't know where that came from :). Does tendonitis also effect the old grey matter??? as both of those previous posts were horendous
 
I have a right shoulder rotator cuff injury, had it for 8 months now, can't lift my right arm above my head, certainly can't put any load on it... doesn't stop me playing though. It's probably more painful to forget and pull the trolley with the wrong arm than it is to swing the club. Threw a tennis ball in the garden the other day and nearly cried :o ...agony is the best way to describe it. Judging by the pain (and time elapsed) I don't think it's going to heal itself in a hurry....... that's my Tour prospects ruined :whistle:

I have a dodgy right rotator cuff from an American Football injury. That was nearly 3 years ago, and it's still gets sore. I've just got back from the gym, it was my "shoulder" day (should have been legs too, but time was against me!) and I can feel it sore now. I have to be really careful not to push it too much and try to lift too much when I train as I'll properly re-injure it if I do.

Very light weights and plenty of reps - no stretches especially not throwing - I had similar problems 4 months ago - chatted it through with physio and gym instructor - on the mend now keeping it moving

Well the doc has prescribe Naproxin, but that's it for now.

For those of you who have had this, is it ok to do light excersises and stretches, as described in this thread, even through the painful part of the motion, or should movements be kept to the range of motion where there is no pain?

I've had both a rotator cuff injury (football) and golfer's elbow (rotational repetitive strain on the elbow tendons) oddly not from golf but from working on my car (using a ratchet constantly).
The advice above is sound, maybe even get to a physio and get some light exercises to follow.
If you are sitting down, best exercise I found was to hold your putter* in your hand so that it is balanced and then lift it SLOWLY out to the side 5 times until it starts to hurt then drop it down, then do another 5 but lift the arm to your front (still out straight). As you do this the height should get greater and gently stretch the tendons out without causing any problems.

* Only if your putter is not heavy weight. I used a simple blade putter for this, I wouldn't use a TM Spider or anything :)
