Ross on Wye - bizarre viewing

Our place used to allow dogs but then people used to come up just to walk the dogs and not even being members so they had to ban dogs. I went to see our old pro, Phil, at his new club on the way home from work of Wednesday evening and there were several people going out with their dogs. One which I remember wasn't on a lead but walked right beside the owners trolley at all times and lay down by it when she took her shots.

See one now and again where I play...

Think there was a piece by Paul McGinley recently where he mentioned his dog joining him for many of his knockabout rounds at home, think the dog had just passed away. Anyways think he said the dog was off the lead but was trained never to walk on a green... Would always walk around it, even if not the most direct route..

At my course I only ever see one when the greenkeeper is out! His dog is very well behaved, and either in his buggy or stood/sat quietly near him. Always nice to see in my opinion!

There was a very moving piece about his Lab who joined him at Sunnngdale I think. Trained him to walk around bunkers and greens.

The course I learnt to play on had a border collie on site owned by the old guy who owned the course. It loved to chase balls though and would stand behind you on the tee all a quiver and ready to go as you hit the ball. Very distracting. Members got used to taking a backswing and pretending to hit the ball so the dog would chase off after nothing and then hit the shot proper!

Quite normal at the more exclusive clubs around here. We followed a guy and his dog on the West course last year and I know The Berkshire allow dogs, most probably Sunningdale as well.

Popular at the more elite courses around the area but not seen it done. I use to play with James Hunt and he had two huge Alsatians that he'd take round. They were the most impeccably behaved dogs I've ever met and never once got in the way nor did they hold the pace of play up.
