I might be a late comer to the party. Recently discovered 'Ros Atkins on..' and I like his style of reporting. getting his point across with some snippets. Very dead pan style of delivery. Stories have ranged from Covid to China to certain political happenings.

I like him. He used to be a Drum n Bass DJ as well and recently did a set on a BBC podcast.

I'd say it's just old fashioned journalism that the BBC forgot.

Emma Barnett also another take no prisoners common sense old schooler.

Thought he was very good. Will watch again.Regarding BB’s post I find Emma Barnett irritating and continually interrupting as she did on Newsnight last night asking a question and not letting the person reply.

However EB compared to Kay Burley is a saint. Unfortunately words cannot describe how I feel about KB, well they can but”The Fragger” would be in touch and this should be avoided at all costs

Agree with this, although I would say that most channels have forgotten this. Too many want to be a personality now. His 10-15 minute reports are shown on a Saturday morning, think it is then rather than a Sunday, on the breakfast news section, 7-9. He takes no sides, has no angle. He just makes his report. I have learnt a great deal from the various topics he covers, it's a very good segment.

Outside Source on the BBC News channel is also very good. He gets his point across in a style that's more natural for me. Some black humour and sarcasm thrown in now and again.

IMO there is a fine line between "classic journalism" and just being rude and there's too many that fall on the latter side of just being rude thinking that it makes them a good journalist. The best journalists, again IMO, are the ones that learned to listen to answers and ask questions based on the answer, flexing their questioning when necessary, rather than just bloody mindedly going after the same question over and over.

As you say... maybe for a change we are getting NEWS/facts rather than the presenters opinions.

He does regular slots on BBC Breakfast and quite frankly I find them embarrassing. He seems to want to come across as a hard nosed commentator, but he just cherry picks certain facts while showing person A in a compromising situation then comes out with a sarcastic comment, it’s almost comical sometimes how he leaves dramatic pauses and the phrases he uses. Reminds me of that comedy news tv program from years ago on C4, was it Drop The Dead Donkey maybe?
*edit*
The Day Today was the tv show I had in mind.

Do you think? He clearly is well in with the current BBC anti government drive, as I’ve just said above, some of his comments are borderline comical and I can’t take his slots seriously for that reason.
I think he comes across as neutral but that doesn't mean I'm right (y)

I like his calmer approach but obviously what makes me like him can have the opposite effect on others. That's life.

I agree and cannot stand him. So dramatic - lessons from the Tony Blair school of "presenting". It's almost like the BBC treat him as a non-employee (therefore unbiased...) and he gets to say what he wants which is usually a vehicle to bash the government.

As we know, UK Politiics can be emotional and polarising.... so what about him when he is not covering UK politics? Say China/Covid, Supply chain etc.

He covers all sorts, but if you don't like him you wouldn't have looked I guess.

Well my point sort of is, every time I've seen him he is only on an anti government section, I've never seen him do another subject lol.
I stick by my comedic observation though, leaving dramatic pauses and making sarcastic remarks has no place in "hard hitting" news sections IMO.
