So Rory's won the biggest prize in golf despite doing his best to throw away a 3 shot lead. Should he be more concerned that he lost such a lead (again) or pleased that he managed to pull it back, albeit in a play-off?

He got lucky in the play off when Kim missed a 3 footer. Losing a 3 shot cushion should be a bit concerning, but he still shot par golf for the round (I think). He'll be more worried about protecting his 1.25 mill from the taxman.. He does seem to have a bit of an issue when the pressure is applied. It might be an age thing that he will overcome when he passes puberty....

I think the more he gets himself into those positions the more he'll get used to the pressure.

I've got him down for another major win next year.

I do think there is a part of him that clearly doesn't like the pressure. Sometimes he can come good as he did to win a major and other times (Masters, Crans and now in Asia) he blows it. Granted he won and a win is a win but it was a poor miss by Kim that gave it to him.

Get off his back, awesome talent. He won simply because Kin choked with the putter. A three shot lead can be wiped out in a blink of an eye lid, its hardly a collapse.

He won plain and simple. Cheque for 1.25 million big ones, thank you! Bang bang.

Well said Craw, U.S.Open winner when just turned 22 and we can't wait to have a go.

Maybe we should be talking about our other top players who have been in major contention in recent times and, for whatever reason, failed to deliver the goods.

To say that Kim gave it to him is nonsense....he missed a 3 foot put which happens all the time... Rory knocked his bunker shot so close he couldn't miss.

2 shots of the 3 shot lead disappeared at the first hole(par 4) of the last round...Kim birdied ..fair play..Rory hit the pin with his 2nd and ricocheted into the rough from where he bogeyed. Such is golf but fortune certainly wasn't on the lad's side.

Kim played well to get to the playoff and in the aftermath of ISM gate, he steps up and wins big in a strong field. He may have had a few wobbles, but his record in majors is still unbelieveable for a 22 year old...... I wouldn't mind being a quid behind him.

Why do we always have to find a way to knock someone who has been successful? We all play golf, we all know how easy it is to miss/ make a 3 foot putt or get/ not get the rub of the green. Why not just congratulate his success.......It was a job well done.

It's usually mostly jealously or envy..or something else, not sure entirely. It's pretty pathetic that Britons as a whole can't support our successful sportsmen/women. There's always too much negativity. No wonder Rors wants to play more on the PGA Tour. They support his success more than we do!

Must agree we seem to build someone up so we can knock them down again. Anyone can have a nervey moment. One that springs to mind. The play off at the masters between Hoch and Faldo. Hoch froze up on a 3ft put to hand it to faldo. It can happen to anyone. You only have to read the number of posts on here, about peoples bottles going in the monthly comps. Now thing if there was a million quid on it?

Leading a Major tll halfway through the final day, winning another by destroying teh firld and course...then winning the richest 1st prize???

I wish I wobbled like that

I really hope he wins The Open next year so that we can put the "bad weather" arguement to bed too

Well played young fella !

I wouldn't call the missed putt on the last a 'wobble' - anyone can miss a putt. I was thinking more of going from being 3 shots ahead to one shot behind with a few holes to play. And yes he still shot level par to win but that was his worst round of the week by 3 shots. I'm not knocking Rory btw - I think he's a very good player and I was delighted to see him win. I just thought it was interesting to consider the pluses and minuses of his performance this week.

got to say that for being the worlds official 3rd best golfer he seems to have more than his fair share of disaster holes. you dont see many of his scorecards without 3/4 bogey blemishes or a double bogey. soon as he gets rid of them then we can expect him to be a regular winner on tour as he also seems to make many birdies to make up for them

Remember Rory lost 2 of his 3 shot lead on the first hole and partly due to bad luck. His approach shot hit the pin and riccoched off the green. Had he missed the pin he may have got birdie instead of bogey at that hole. He recovered in the back 9 and came from a stroke behind to tie before winning play off. This was not a Masters style choke.

Think it was a fair original post, physically Rory has a game that few can match but mentally he has shown in the past that he can be weak, the 2011 Masters collapse being the obvious example and the 2010 Open to a lesser degree (if he'd been really focussed on day 2 and come in with 76 rather than 80 he could have won).
Tiger Woods in his early 20's didn't display that kind of mental weakness.
He is getting the job done but the odd question remains about his 'bottle'.
