Just seen it online, I guess this marks a change in his preparation approach to The Open Championship over the last few years and sure it'll add a few more to the attendance of the Scottish event

Dag namit why cant I proof reed everyhing :D

Royal Aberdeen is a proper links course!

His style and Golf on links courses can clash at times - in spite of him growing up on one!

Home course is a parkland course. I'm sure he played his share of links growing up but Holywood GC is parkland.

Doh! I thought I remembered him saying he 'grew up' on links course(s). Maybe just played a lot of them! His shot shape certainly isn't a classic links one.

Definitely a case of played a lot of them. Really couldn't have avoided playing them!

There is a scorecard for him at Ballyliffin think he holds a course record. Nett level par off +5 H/C

Yup learned the game at Holywood gc, that doesnt say much though as its not a very good course (not even close to being the best course in the Holywood area). Practiced/was coached at Bangor though played plenty of links at the likes of Ballyliffin etc winning at co. Sligo in the west of ireland as an amateur amongst others.
He can play links but i think he just prefers other types of courses as they suit his game a lot more. There are plenty of good golfers that have not had much success in links events.

It took Phil Mick over 20 years to learn to play links well enough to win The Open. Rory will do it faster than that.
Agreed that Rory will win one before 20 years, but if he is in form that week of the open then he could shoot the lights out on any course regardless of where it is. When he is on form he is unstoppable.

He holds the course record for Royal Portrush, gross 61 playing off +4 when he was 16. The scorecard is framed and on the wall in Holywood GC.
