Rory court battle could threaten partnership with GMac

I would hope the two would be strong enough to put off course differences to one side but I have my doubts. We've seen in the past how disunity in the US camp has played into Europe's hands. Hope it doesn't work the other way around

Let me get this right; McIlroy is going to sue because the terms of his contract were not very good. He signed the bloody contract, it was up to him and his lawyers to negotiate the best deal. The fact that he was unhappy with it afterwards seems ridiculous to me.
Oh dear Rory, how many mistakes can a young man make. A young, very wealthy man, nevertheless.

Sort of my take aswell, surely he was aware of the terms at the point he signed!?

You'd have though that he might also have asked GMac what deal he was on before moving aswell.....?

This is a 'grass is greener' problem. Rory thought he was going to get paid even more by jumping management firms but found that actually it wasn't the case.

The fact that he and his legal team didn't understand the contract details is his look out in my opinion.

Really he needs to focus on his game and move on - all the private life stuff isn't helping and really he is such a fantastic talent he could do with using that rather than the legal side to move his earnings ratio back to where he wants it!

Who says GMac is going to make the team anyway?

Plenty I would sooner see McGinley pick over him, and quite rightly so, if his form to date this year is anything to go by.

I have a feeling that he might lose this case and be out of pocket himself and to be perfectly honest I hope he does.

No sympathy here, he signed the deal/s and was happy to do so. Now he wants a better deal and thinks he can rip up existing contracts and start again. Nah, not for me. It's a shame that he appears to be more focused on his deals than his golf, hopefully that will change.

Will this affect his relationship with McDowell? If he has instructed lawyers to use his mates deal (therefore putting it in the public domain) as a comparison without asking him about it, then yes I would think so. If he done that with you and made your financial dealings public would you be happy? If he cleared it with McDowell first then it's not an issue.

Should have stuck with chubby and titleist, would easily be dominating.nothing against him or nike but hope he gets what's coming.
I've signed contracts before and then had better offers but had to turn them down because I've had to honour my contract, why should this be any different.

Seems more that he was promised a similar rate to GMac but after signing he has discovered a disparity. That's a little bit different to simply not reading his contract.

It's like going for a job and then being told the contract is the same as other you work with. Look it over, nothing out of order so sign. You can't actually view someone else contract to confirm. Then you discover you are actually being paid less than others how do the same work.

With his Nike contract and other income etc he's not exactly down to his last Big Mac is he?

The time for questions about a contract's terms are before you sign not after - unless he's saying he was duped - then sue the legal advisor.

glad there's at least 2 of us on the same page.

the legal question will probably come down to a combination of what was verbally agreed and it's enforceability. my very simple understanding about contract law revolves around the Statute of Frauds and there are only a very small number of contracts that require to be in writing to be enforceable.
