A journo, ex pro, working for Golf Channel and others, has been picking on JP for a few years and was scathing about Rory's first round. So Rory tweeted him to 'shut up' etc.

Isn't it funny how somebody who couldn't make it at the top level,has the audacity to pick holes in a major winners game.
Rory should have asked "so how many tournaments did you win as a pro ?"

Funny how a journalist on golf was making comment on one of the hottest properties in golf, should he just be like some of the worst comms ever and just blow smoke up his arse?

Story is pretty well summed up above - it's been blown up because Rory was called a spooled brat in the US for defending his caddie.

Personally, I see this as the journalist is entitled to publicly express his opinion about Rory and his caddie but for some reason Rory is not allowed to publicly express his opinion about the journalist.

The journalist may have been right in his opinion but he expressed it in a pretty unprofessional way as far as I'm concerned. Rory bit back - and the bite back was a little unprofessional too.

What will be hugely unfair is if Rory faces a sanction while the journalist does not.

The journo said Rory's course management was like that of a 10 year old and he should get rid of his caddie and take on Stevie Williams. Rory told him he was a failed golfer and his opinion didn't matter. Journo said he stood by his comments and Rory replied with "I stand by my caddie"

Personally I think Townsed is an appaling commentator, poor read as a journalist and wasn't any great shakes as a player. Whilst he is entitled to his views I think there is a certain audacity trying to tell a current major champion what he should and shouldn't be doing about who he hires as a caddy and how he plays the game

I don't see what how good a player someone was has anything to do with their right to express an opinion. Crikey, we all offer enough of them on here about pro's.
Or Butch Harmon, Hank Haney etc commenting on swings?

The only thing Townsend is guilty of is maybe expressing it in a rather childish way.

I'm not biased towards him in any way, I have no idea who he is.
