I'm just flicking on and off the PGA website tracking the scores and it looks like Rory has just repeated yesterday's horror putting experience on the 12th with another four putt.

Both days I think he took two from almost gimmee distance?

Can anybody confirm this?

Yeah, the two were pretty much gimmies. Take those 8 putts - Make them two two putts - thats 4 less, he'd be 10 under and if would be in with more of a shout!!

Shocker!

The worst I've done is 3 putts, never had a 4!

Cheers, yeah, it's not great.

(Very well done if you've never had a 4-putt, I'm as good as Rory.)

Don't know why I am admitting to this but I have managed a 5 putt before... I am ashamed but it was early days and you should have seen this green!

I was once told by a pro that 3 putts from 6 foot are more common for pros than for average club players. His rationale was that a pro will rattle the putt in, so if it misses, it'll run on past the hole, and they'd then repeat that on the return putt and could miss it again.

The club golfer will likely only just shave the hole if they miss, so should have the simplest tap in.

He didn't mention 4 putts! That didn't seem to be Rory's problem, though; it looked to me like he just got careless, certainly with the 2nd and 3rd putts on the first of the 4 putts.

Had to laugh at Preet (LIG) at Gainsborough a few weeks ago.
Hit two superb shots on a par 5 to reach the green and was putting for an eagle.
He walked off a few minutes later (seemed like hours :mad:) with a 7 on his card
:rofl::rofl::rofl::whistle:

I'm generally considered a decent putter but five putts is my record. Three putted from 2 feet on Saturday....it happens! If you let it get to you is when you have problems though. Sure Rory will recover.

Not fun to see, especially as the final two days on that green probably cost him the tournament. Have to say I'm impressed with how he got on with it after though (-2 for rest of the round). Noticed he's had a new putting routine this year where he skips the practice strokes, just steps up to the ball and goes for it. Looking at his record this year, can't really argue with the fact that this instinctive approach works for him. This, unfortunately was a prime example of how just when you're on top of the world, the golfing gods take sadistic pleasure in reminding you just how human you are.
