How can Alex Ferguson defend the forearm smash that Rooney inflicted on Wigan's McCarthy today? One of the most blatant sending off offences of the season, but the thug just gets away with murder.
Can't stand him or his antics and can't abide managers who try and defend the indefensible.

Agreed on all counts.

But how funny is Mike Phelan coming out after the game and claiming "we can't dispute the referee's decision"?

If I had a pound for each time he and Alex Ferguson have done the very same. In the past year alone.

Just saw the incident, can't understand what he's thinking!
I hope they give him a decent ban, he deserves one.
Rooney = knob !

Just had quick check on You Tube. Nothing as yet. It's showing on sky sports news if you have it. Maybe BBC IPlayer will have MOTD?

Just shows what isn't going on in his head!

However, the Ref saw it and gave a free-kick. I'm not sure they can do any more . If the Ref hadn't seen it then he would be in trouble.

More than willing to be corrected on this...

Unfortunately, as a wigan fan in the premier league, you get used to the big decisions going against you. Small clubs get treated differently to big ones..always have, always will...

At first glance it looked rather innocuous but after you see it again, he really went for him, very silly boy, I am not sure, but think that they can still do something as the ref didnt card him, if he had got yellow, they couldnt change that but as he took no action, maybe they can.

From MOTD they reviewed it and they thought the ref was watching the ball and all he saw was Rooney and the defender collide and the Wigan lad came off worse so he gave a free kick. I honestly don't think he saw it.
I'm also willing to be corrected on this...

loo at what happened at Newcastle with Mike Williamson against Elmander of Bolton back in November They give him 3 match ban for for something no where near as obvious.

unlike Martinez, I do think the lack of red card was because it was Wayne Rooney and moreso Manchester United. They are s**t scared of Ferguson and his big ego

and normally imurg is right

the FA dont/cant take retrospective disciplinary action if the refs seen it at the time

they deem it as action taken if seen at the time

which is daft really , if replay later shows more than what the ref originally thought on violent conduct they should ask the ref in question to review it and then make a recommendation

As a Manchester United supporter, I do get embarrassed by the leniency of referees towards our players. I would much rather play on a level playing field were decisions where made depending on the crime not on who you play for.

I will add though, that its not just Manchester United who get away with this, all the top clubs get away with it in every league in the world.

Manchester United supporter who does not wear red tinted glasses.

and its not just big decisions like penalties, sendings off ,that influence the results

its alot of the little decisions too, things like corners, free kicks, throw ins not being given and pressure not being built on big teams (OK i mean MAN Utd in this instance, but yes other teams too) that seem to get the decisions always going their way

that goes for soft/non freekicks given to them while defending that alleviate the pressure

and obviously the decision that go their way when attacking that shouldnt be given, corners, free kicks that build the pressure on the other team, fouls committed on the smaller teams while defending that would have relieved the pressure

last week or (when it was) v Man City wasnt there a save that VDS made that should have been a corner that wasnt given, and the goal Man u scored from a corner that blatantly came off the red player

nice TaylorMade Phil -good to know there are some Man u fans that like football rather than a vast amount that support them through red tinted glasses that never see any of the negative parts of their chosen team

Am I the only one who cannot see what the big fuss is??

For me he is trying to get past someone who has taken a step towards him to block him.............come on,it is hardly a 'forearm smash'!!

Nothing to answer to in my opinion.

Seems to me this game is watched and played by pussies nowadays.....

If you want a talking point start with the assault that was Taylors 'Tackle' in the Toon game!! :o

I agree with Dodger

Any other team and any other player and it probably wouldnt even have made the highlights reel, but as its Rooney the media are all over it and because its Man United everybody else jumps on the bandwagon.

Much ado about nothing

I think you guys were watching a different match!
To say there was nothing in it means you're as blind as Clattenberg.
Rooney tries to run past, the defender blocks a little and Rooney gives him a forearm smash that Mick McManus or Giant Haystacks would have been proud of. If he's just running to get past the defender what's his arm doing up that high?

Imurg, open your eyes. The Wigan player went towards him to block his run,Rooney uses his arm as leverage (as every player would do) to get past him,he makes contact with the Wigan player as he tries to shrug him off granted but a 'forearm smash'??.......it was nothing,if that had been Stuart Downing v Baz Ferguson you would have heard hee haw and correctly so.

And before you ask,naw I cannot stand Rooney/Man Ure.

Dodger - my eyes are open and I've been a Utd fan since the early 70's.
You're entitled to your opinion but apart from you, Smange, Fergy and Phelan, there's not been anything but condemnation for it.
Ok, he's using the arm for leverage - FFS Rooney's 4ft nothing!! The defender's going to be a 6 footer!!
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree but it wouldn't surprise me if the FA have alook at it.

Sorry Dodger imo you are wrong,i played football for 15 years,am a man utd supporter and he definately meant to elbow the guy,in fact he could have broke his jaw if he had caught him right.Rooney should be cited and banned, its about time he grew up and started playing football again,he is fast becoming a angry man and in the end it will cost him dearly.
