The last survivor of the triumvirate that were the core of one of the most brilliantly written comedy series of my time has now passed. Quite a step up from being Basil Brush's sidekick.

Hard to believe all three have now gone. I always thought his role was the one that really made the other two characters work so well.

Harder to believe that Nigel Hawthorne has been gone nearly 20 years and Paul Eddington nearly 25.

Now I've edited in the clip I intended, I love that Nigel Hawthorne can barely keep a straight face as he sets up Derek Fowlds for the punchline.
