For those that may be wondering..........

I proposed a golf related training aid, but my lecturer wasn't interested!

lecturer was right- thousands out there and most are crap.

As for the Riot shield they should be reflective so the scum see themselves as others see them! sorted!

Nah, i vote for sharp and pointy. plus electrified! maybe even throw in some automated pepper spray and tazer firing system. That should keep the midwives and BNP at bay.

I'm sorry but is this for real; what can be done to improve a riot officer's appearance? Surely the primary objective in redesigning a riot shield is to improve the protection or usability for the officer stood behind it, not making it look pink & fluffy to appease the angry mob?

Put a picture of my Mother in Law on the shield.

Cheers for the feedback guys!

Blue in Munich, I'm looking at the riot officers stature in society to begin with, to back up anything I make a point of through the design phase. The project will look at improving riot shields, and possibly bringing them more into the 21st century, the basic principles will remain, but with improvements made to existing models, and advances in material technology introduced.

I've filled in your form, it is a tool of my trade after all.

In response to some of the above comments though, the image is irrelevant, they have been designed for a purpose. Do you understand what they do, apart from deflect missiles?

If you haven't already done so, I would suggest visiting a Police station where they will be able to demonstrate how they work. They have more than one function and have been designed to fit together in certain ways to perform different functions.

In reality, it's a decent bit of kit. I'm sure a few tweaks and modifications would improve it, but in reality, they just need to be lighter and more comfortable to carry. It doesn't matter how big or strong you are, the way they have to be carried/held, puts a strain on your back. Most bobbies try to balance it on a knee pad when they are stationary for long periods. (there's a clue for ya)

For what it's worth though, the long shield is see-through and oblong shaped, not exactly intimidating. The short shields are round and black, so neither are they.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the input! All much appreciated! I'm planning to visit a local station fairly soon, possibly this week. Just got to through the 'ethics' form that the University give us!
