Hi,

I don't read many Golf Magazines.

Have there been any comparison reviews of waterproof jackets recently published?

I have just looked at a Ping Isley jacket, and Dry Joy Xp in my local shop, but would like a bit more information before I buy.

Thanks for any help

Not sure but I will say try before you buy and if you can go the higher end that is fully waterproof and breathable.

I have a £100 Benross waterproof top that is fully waterproof and works well but I don't wear it because it get so wet inside because it cant blinkin breathe.

Hi,

I've had a couple of Ping jackets in the past and they are excellent. The trousers both started letting in around the knees. Have a look at Sunice and the Mizuno range of waterproofs, both excellent.

I now have some Zero Restriction kit that I got in America. Its as they say "awesome"!

I have a couple footjoy ones, but picked up a Nike hyper adapt one, it's had plenty use in our Northern Irish summer and so far has been excellent, as good as my galvin green trousers.

They maybe the most expensive but for me they are worth every penny - Galvin Green - or anything with made out of Goretex.

I disagree. I think GG is over priced and to be honest I've never had a problem with either Proquip or FJ at a much lower price. Never let me down even out of warranty and in the heaviest of winter rain

Footjoy Myjoys are overpriced.

I have FJ waterproofs and they are pants when its peeing down.

Does anyone know if GG waterproof and there warranty cover bramble tears or accidental damage.

GG or adidas Gore Tex

Anything Goretex is a good place to start. I have an adidas gortex jacket and being Scottish this has been well and truly tested over the past year. The best £120 I have ever spent from Clubhouse golf.

I previously had a fotjoy jacket which wasn't goretex and it was pretty useless tbh

I have this:

It is excellent for the money! I have used it in light showers, heavy rain & stay nice & dry. I have used it for golf, walks along the beach etc. It's been great. Breathable, lightweight waterproof & only £35!

I even use it for walking to the train station etc for work. This morning, bit showery, humid, warm. On goes the jacket, off I go to the station. Nice & dry, quite breathable so didn't get sweaty & horrid.

Another vote here for Nike Hyperadapt. Kept me dry for last two years on west (and coast) of Scotland.

A big plus is the amount of movement you have in the jacket.

You actually forget your wearing it

I recently bought a Wolsey jacket which is 2.5ply and I think is a similar material to goretex. They have a big sale going on. I got it for £70 reduced from over 200. So far I'm loving it, it's quite fitted but has some elasticity to it so it doesn't effect my swing.

Bought a Mizuno 'Impermalite Flex' a few weeks ago and was very impressed as it's first outing was the Cooden Beach Onslaught, if I can find the trousers to fit I'll grab a pair but so far the smallest waist I've found are 34inch!

I have a Sunderland goretex jackets that is many years old. Keeps me bone dry. I only added to my collection with a Sunice due to the rotundness of my belly starting to be an issue in deepest winter when it's layers time. The Sunice is totally waterproof too, even if it's not Gortex.

Another vote here for ProQuip. I use their product and I find it excellent, even in the worst of Scottish weather. I admit I treat them with Nikwax Tech-Wash and TX Direct Wash-In once a year but other than that they stay folded up in my bag and come out when needed. And nice and quiet when you swing as well. This is the brand the Americans had to buy when their own waterproofs failed.

Gore-tex is good but bear in mind that it's just a really well established trade name and other similar brands are out there which are equally as efficient and used in other waterproof jackets.
