Played in the roll-up this morning, which basically constitutes the bulk of the chunterers that contributed to my recent cut.

Stood around in the cold waiting for the gloom to lift at about 7:20 this morning quite a crowd gathered. Once it was decided that there was just about enough light to see the line, if not the landing area, we were off. As I addressed the ball, chief chunterer announces to the group that "this guy shot 48 points the other week".

No warm-up and feeling very conscious of everyone behind me I proceeded to just about get enough of the ball to send it wide right into a red staked area . Took the drop and finished the first with a 6 for 1 point.

Got my act together after that and carded an 83 for a 43 point total with 8 pars, 8 bogeys and 2 doubles and took the loot! :D

Had a quick bacon butty and out with a few mates for another round, birdied the first and carded another 83, not a bad day all in all

Probably get another call from the handicap secretary tomorrow! lol

Put yourself in their shoes, if someone came along winning everything off a clearly too high handicap would you like it?
48 points is pretty obscene tbh.
What's SSS out of interest at your track?

However it's up to the M+H committee to get you on a correct handicap by cutting you beyond the book number so it's not your fault unless you put in 3 poor cards for handicap intentionally?? :D

My previous thread, discussed this a little, my handicap 'may' be too high at the moment, but only recently owing to a few lessons and a lot of time at the range. I played in pretty much every qualifying comp last year for e.g.

Was also the first time I had shot that low, ever! Beat my previous best by 7 strokes :)

SSS is normally 71 on a par 72, although the course is currently a par 71 owing to a par 4 being shortened to a par 3 for repairs to the fairway, no idea what that does to the SSS :D

They wanted to cut me to 19 after the 48 pointer, I told them that was not enough it should be more, so they altered it to 18.2

I want my handicap down as low as I can get it, to me that's the only true reflection on how well you can play, not the number of tin pots, medals or roll-ups you win! But, I also want it to come down as a result of me playing well enough in qualifying comps to drive it down there, not because of the opinion of some senior members!

Another great score i can see single figures by the end of the year!!!

Well done

Cheers Alan, don't think that is really achievable, but it would be good to get down to low teens this year.

I'm still not hitting the irons consistently enough on the course, way too many are hit 'fat' and coming up short. Fortunately my driving, which went AWOL all last summer, is back and firing (74% fairways hit this year), and my short game is going really well :D

Good man. The fun part is doing it with a h/cap card in your hand! You're gonna sh*t yourself! :D

Enjoy it, and best of luck :)

48 points? I think most would argue that deserves a cut! Great shooting though. Well done and a great start to 2011.

Let me know if you fancy a round up at Beverley some time!

Anybody would think you've had a driving lesson and bought a V-Easy :D :D
I hope your confidence is growing on the course too.

Good luck mate :)
