Came back on Monday from our jolly to the Algarve. 4.5 rounds of Golf from Wednesday to Sunday. Stayed at Estrala Da Luz-an Oceanico resort in Luz western Algarve. We were provided with a 3 bedroom apartment-1 double and two twins-great for 4 lads. Great restaurant on site-decent bar and a good pool table. Would recommend the resort.
Played 9 holes at Penina Resort-more dog legs than in the local pet rescue centre. As one of the lads said--if Henry Cotton designed Penina Championship Course then Dot Cotton designed the Resort Course. As a 9 hole starter its ok.
Thursay played Alamos a newish course relatively short but a fine course and will develop as it matures.
Friday Palmeres was the venue with mixed reviews from the group. Some good holes but also some weak holes.
Saturday was the best course played-Morgado-located on the same estate as Alamos but a lot more mature. IMHO not a poor hole on the course.
Sunday Boavista was a real let down-far too many blind tee shots over hills aiming at poles in the distance. Greens in an awful condition, poorly maintained, ball bobbled on every putt and the eighteenth was the worse of the lot-my 30 foot putt took a jump halfway to the hole and went off at a 90 Degree angle. A real pity as the Par 3's are great looking holes. From our perspective it looked like the money was pumped into the houses and the clubhouse facilites and not the course.
We enjoyed the week and in the main the golf was good.
