Evening all,

I'm looking at replacing me Ping G15's regular shaft for something with a stiffer shaft in it. I've found on eBay a nice set of Titleist 710 AP2's at a good price and good shaft.

However when checking up on the specs I see that the pings came out in 2011 and the Titleist 2009, I know they are different types of clubs. But would I be noticing a step backwards so to speak or because they are different ie game improvement to a better players iron, going to be enough to see a positive difference?

Any thoughts or imput appreciated.

I don't think anything will be amiss with the shafts or their age. A couple of guys i play with are using stuff from 2001 and order with no problems.

only thing you will notice changing from pings to a forged players club is i expect they will be less forgiving and maybe a bit harder to hit.

Try them and see is the only answer

I erased my original reply. It was patronising.

Just buy the Titleists and stop larking about with thoughts of SGI shovels.

AP - One of the best irons ever made. They are coming through in large quantities 2nd hand at the moment. I'm going to get me a set....

and tell my mate where to stick his "plan" to flog me some beginner Ping nonsense.

whoops.... that didn't go any better. :o

Don't think you can go wrong with the AP2s as you say it is more the change in style you are after, not an upgrade to what you have. Will be more demanding but also more rewarding so go for it, will make you go after the centre of the club more than the Pings will.

Don't worry about the age of the clubs. The heads are liable to be fine and, if necessary, the shafts can easily be replaced.

I bought a 'used' set (probably around 20 years old) of Mizuno MP-14s for £75 and changed the shafts myself. If I can do it, anyone can.
