Finally the old Mondeo has given up the ghost and decided to clap out on me :( wonderful car, never once let me down. But as they say, better to have love and lost than......
So I've been offered Megane 03 plate, supposedly (by the man who's selling) a great car.
Does anyone have an opinion on them? Good or bad, will be much appreciated

I had a 2 litre Megan for about 4 years. Never had a days trouble, really roomy abd pretty quick. Did eat fuel though

me and 3 colleagues had diesels 1.5 and all had turbo issues! Avoid!!!

My mrs had one. Worst car we've owned. Nothing but faults (electrical) with it. I'd definitely have a focus over a megane.

I had 1.6L petrol Megane Scenic,
Driven carefully around 40mpg,never had any problems, loads of room,
Like any car depending on how its been looked after, serviced regular, shouldnt have any problems.

I've got a 54 plate Megane 1.9 dci privilege.....had it approx. 6 years now and the only thing ever to go wrong was the glow plugs needing changing, apart from that its never missed a beat.

45mpg..... quick, roomy (did me and the Mrs for a week away in a caravan with a baby +kit), cheap to insure and service.

Each to their Own
there is good and bad with every model of cars

We ( me & mrs ) have had 2 Meganes
1.5dci hatchback
£30 tax
MPG up at 60..........runs on fresh air
cheap to run, very reliable, spacey, comfortable
Worst problems, 2 electric window faults (regulators)......common fault

also
1.9dci Estate/Tourer
Loved that car, wife has it Now, whilst I actually have Mondeo....
Great car to drive, perfect golf car, or loading our dogs in the back
No issues, and had over 4years
MPG ..... still about 46 , so decent , and decent performance too

I was warned about 'French rubbish' too , beforehand , but have NO COMPLAINTS with either of 2 Ive owned
The warnings I was given were more about Electrical Problems

I used to have a 'booty' Megane as a company car - loved it, spacious, reliable. Now I drive an 07 Clio, 1.1 petrol - I've only had it for 6 months, but my Mum drove it for 4 years before me - never had an issue (touch wood) and has been serviced regularly, looked after.

No problem with French cars, would happily drive another Renault!

I looked at the Renaultsport Megane briefly. It was quick but a few minutes on the web researching user experiences put me off - lots of issues.

Had a Megane soft top in the early 00's and it was great - had a little prob poem early on but in three years it was fine

Had a 308 ( same electrics ) for the last 5 years and it's very good mechanically but has had a number of electric faults - air con , electric windows but the car runs nicely

My mate had a booty Megane and was great but then he had a problem with it and they just couldn't fix it and in the end he got rid

Think you will find horror stories with every make of car - a FC has just got rid of his Aston Martin because he has had constant issues with it

This^^^ nice car to drive but I'd definitely have a read up on the net before buying.

What engine and model is the 03.

I worked for Renault for 10 years, Each Renault has its own mind. Had The entire range as company cars and the Megane was one of the best. The Megane Renaultsport was a beast tho :D

That's completely true, Its pot luck if you get a good car or a bad car from any manufacturer, Its how the dealer handles it and gets it repaired is normally the issue.

On the whole most of the car dealers service sections are a joke and the customer service is equally horrendous.

I hired one a few years ago, when we arrived at Gatwick and the agency was running late. I groaned when he said Renault but Megane was the only thing they had left. I have to say that it was superb. So comfortable, like driving whilst sitting in your fave armchair, and it was also very quick, and all instruments all laid out so well.
