I drive a 2005 Grand Scenic and have been getting a message on starting up, "battery in key needs changing".
Despite changing battery and the car starting ok,a few days later the message re-appears.
Any experiences of this from any Renault owners?
Thanks,

In many cars the ECU will store a code and even once rectified will still be in the memory. A reset might be needed.
Replaced my EGR at the weekend on my old Alfa and needed to clear the code even after it was replaced.

Will pop down to my local dealer and enquire about clearing this message.

I agree , i had a Laguna , nice car but massive money pit , would not have another if it was given away . Im sure they cannot make them for the money and rely on parts to get their money back ,cost me a fortune just to keep it on the road , porsche parts are cheaper !

You have my deepest sympathy.
I have had a couple of French cars & although I like the styling & comfort of them, the reliability of them was horrendous.
Sorry, can't help you with your current problem, other than offer my advice.
Get rid of it before it breaks down.

More often than not if a new battery doesn't fix it it's an internal fault in the key which will need replaced, kiss goodbye to the better part of £200.

Got a Renault Grand Scenic myself and for the first year it was great and had no problems with it. Got it serviced 6 months ago and ever since then have had the message "Injection Fault - STOP" coming up and then the engine cuts out and won't start again for 1/2 an hour. Took it back to the garage and they couldn't find a problem and even took it to the Renault dealer to get it put on their diagnostics computer. £85 later and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Will be trading it in after New Year and getting something a bit more reliable.

Thanks for all the replies,I feel much better now!
I have had the car for about 6 years and am aware of many inbuilt problems,I will not have another Renault.
As an aside I even have a spare key and the warning message still comes up intermittently,it has not actualy failed to start yet.
Off to Renault later but will not be taking my credit card!

Good car but once they start getting to a few years old they do start costing a fortune, Don't let the dealer take the mick with the prices, Look for a Renault independent garage as they will have the clip and will do the work a lot cheaper than the Reanult dealer. My mate is one in Lincolnshire and he sorts out old Renaults a lot better than the local dealer.
