Got a grip that I'd like to try and save so need some advice to get it off undamaged.

Previously seen it done with a compressor but seeing as I haven't got access to one of these do I need any special tools ?

Assume its reverse of putting it on so need to get the solvent between the grip and grip tape/shaft.

Solvent, small funnel and long screw driver...open the grip up a little, pour solvent in, work screwdriver around...repeat..with longer strokes....should take about 5 mins.

You just need a thin firm piece of metal, I use a welding rod that's doubled over so it has a rounded end so it doesn't scratch the shaft. Just do as per the videos, put the tool in about 1/2 inch under the grip then put in solvent, this should allow you to push it down an inch or two, twist it round the shaft to break the seal all the way round then repeat until you get to the bottom of the grip, doesn't take long. You can buy tools made for the job but they are about £30 so uneconomical unless your taking a lot of grips off. I have done ones by compressor but didn't really like it as our works compressor is very powerful and was wary of the grip exploding, will try the bike pump method mentioned above sometime.
