Remembrance Day

Don't think any of the clubs around here do anything like that. Certainly not at my own club. I wonder what the support would be if it was instigated. As a club we had two former members awarded the VC, one during WWI and the other during WWII. We have a display in the main lounge as a reminder of this and the futility of such conflict. A morning with the course closed might be an idea for future years.

However, I have in recent year been down to our village war memorial for the laying of wreaths and the two minutes silence. There's usually quite a turn out for this and it's a special feeling seeing all the old gents march by after church parade.

I'm afraid we do nothing. I don't know if that's just laziness or for a particular reason but I don't think they'd ever think of starting play at 12. I'm guessing and it's my opinion as well that a golf club isn't really the sort of place to hold such a thing. If you wanted to pay your resprcts then there are other ways of doing it and places to go. That said whenever we use to play Sunday morning football we'd always have a silence before kick off. Maybe they could sound the klaxon at 11 and the golfers could stop playing wherever they are on the course and just bow their heads until the signal to restart

Same here, sounds horn at 11.00 and everyone (well I would like to think everyone)stands for the 2 minutes.

Not on the course last year, but was told of a few young chaps who kept on playing, they did get a talking to when back at club house, but all they said was "it's not in the rules so we didn't have to stop"

Klaxons at 11.00 and everyone on the courses will stop for a couple of minutes. Occasionally one or two may not have realised what was happening but soon see that others are standing with heads bowed.

As we are only about 7 or 8 miles from the centre of London, we often hear the cannons firing. Very moving.

Was amazed at how many people at our club was not wearing a poppy today,

why, Remberance Day is, and should have remained, 11.00 am 11th November as it was for years. It's only in relatively recent times that ceremonies were switched to the nearest weekend - because it was more convenient.
Once you do that you start you start to lose the meaning. Many businesses don't stop nowadays - ours 'encourages' you to do - and we're in the defence industry! - but as we don't have a tannoy system anymore it's difficult to co-ordinate
