Here's a wee video I found on Youtube. Just to remund us of what we are missing during this mini-ice age we are currently experiencing.

I found it quite fascinating and it certainly made me wish I could hit a ball. Check out some of the contours on these greens!!!

Thats golf in its true form not the manicured postcard courses on the PGA Tour.I think that could be another 8 hour round trip later on in the year but is it as good as its established neighbour?
Still looking forward to playing its neighbour in March.
I think a few 2 putts on them greens would ok. :D

Hear hugely contrasting reports on the Dunes,a member at Machrahanish who is also a member at ours says it is a joke of a track and in awful nick,he's played it 3 times and says the number of blind shots are unreal but not only that the contours of some of the fairways mean that you cannot hold the fairways. He also said the greens are a total joke and they have been really struggling to get punters on it hence the good deal to be had. This side of the story also comes from a few others who have been there.Another common gripe is that because they were restricted on what earth they could shift it means many of the holes are verging on Mickey Mouse golf.

On the flipside 2 others I spoke to said it was great, not the best of conditions yet,but very enjoyable but an unbelievably long walk.....5 hours for a 2 ball due to the routing of the course!

Will be interesting how it comes along as it sure looks a nice enough course.

May try to take a look in May when I'm over.

The only problem with seeing it now is i am now chomping at the bit for a game  :( :o

I popped out just now and took a picture in case you want a game

I have heard the same Dodger, think its either a place that you will love or hate. It has still to bed in by all accounts.

I believe that the biggest grype is that there are so many blind shots and alot of the tees you stand and think "where the hell am I going"! I believe that they recommend that you hire a "spotter/course guide".

I am playing there in June in the Argyll and Bute handicap, so I'll let you know how it plays.

understand where ur coming from dodger -maclay -kidd that designed `the dunes` course also did our new course at st.andrews `the castle `..never seen such a mess ..greens are 10 times worse than the himalay`s putting green ,the layout of the course isn`t to bad but u could 3/4 or even 5 putt most of the greens and a lot of the locals don`t go near it as it`s not enjoyable ..waste of £10 million !!

Aye GCD stayed in a B&B this year in St Andrews and the owner was saying he had 8 seperate folk staying with him in the previous 4 weeks of me staying there walk off and demand their cash back....after he told me that I went for a wander myself and can see where they are coming from!

Not one that is high on my hit list!

Dunno if it is true but rumour is that after 5 years they are going to dig the greens up and relay..if it is true I would be looking to take alot of cash back from the designers for ballsing up bigtime!
