Just went into my local Edinburgh Woolen Mill and a pack of 12 refurb Prov1 balls scanned at an amazing £6.99!! There used to be a lot more golf gear there but they seem to be reducing their stock so I guess thats why they scanned at this price although the refurb Nike's were more??.Not everybody cup of tea refurbs but at this price I couldnt resist and stocked up!

Ive just realised Ive put this in the wrong section (trying to get used to the mobile friendly format!) So could a moderater put it in the lounge pls.

It's personal preference, I don't use pro v1s, I give them away if I find any.

I have had good experience with srixon lake balls so stick with them.

Refurbishing a golf ball though, doesn't sound like a quality friendly process.

One may not use refurbs but that's a personal preference. But if you do use them, then the OP was a good spot and worth posting.

Personally I don't use refurbs - not due to performance because my game isn't good enough to tell - but due to appearance. Don't know what they do to them but they often have on odd appearance - a bit like a botox-ed face, which I find off-putting.

Agreed. That is spot on. Something not quite right when you look at them.

I have used loads in practice. Most do a pretty similar job to a proper pro v. Still well better than any srixon soft feel or similar type ball.

Hear what some of you guys are saying but having used these refurbs there really isnt a lot of different between them and a none refurb pro v1.
I cant image theres any damage to the core on these balls and all the refurbs I have used are true and not out of shape, the balls are cleaned bleached and painted and you simply cant get away with that process with a badly damaged ball.Heres a rating for pro v1refurbs on the AG website http://www.americangolf.co.uk/balls...-pro-v1x-refurbished-12-ball-pack-250198.html
I think its a mental thing "I'm gonna play better golf with a none refurb ball" and if that works for people great, its a hard enough game as it is!!

I've played a few refurbed PV1s and almost all have felt different to 'proper' ones - as many have posted, rather like rocks! So not keen on them.
I suspect the difference is in the final process - the new cover - and may be down to either the bonding or the thickness.

As soon as you paint them you have no idea what they are any more. My son picked up a box a few weeks ago, and two identically marked balls were very different in dimple pattern .... so how can they be the same ball underneath the new paint job?

What is the scenario with re-furb golf balls?? Whats the process in grading them as 'refurbs' I most of the time pick up lake balls as they are cheaper and will usually buy a fresh brand new box for golf over the summer.

It's a good price if you like refurbs but I don't use refurbs or lake balls as I just don't know what their history is. Golf is a mental game and I want to know, in my head, that dodgy balls are not part of my issues.

If you don't mind what you play with and accept that chances are many of this refurbs may not actually be what it says on it then why not. Personally I wouldn't even use them to practice but that's my own preference.

My experience of refurbs is that the performance is nothing like a non-refurb. Odd ball flight and totally different feel when putting. I was given a dozen refurbed Pro V's for Christmas, I used two and threw the rest into the practice net. Never again.
