Wandered into the clubhouse this morning and the Medal results from yesterday are up on the screen. Looked at top of Div 3 and see a gross 77 off a 21 H'cap for a nett 56. WTF?!!?! That beat the gross for most of Div 1 and 2.

On a more positive note, the chap who won Div 1 got a 68 gross with some amazing golf. He's off 5 though, so is he a 'bandit' as well? ;)

That is a seriously good round but it does happen. I've shot a nett 61 playing off 11 before.

Take comfort in the 4 or 5 shot cut he's going to get.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I really think he's a bandit, as I know that he plays very regularly in the qualifiers, I was just amazed at the scoring and how far ahead of the rest of the division it was.

The gross 68 was a new course record in competition and the lad who did it has had his handicap tumbling all year anyway. Sometimes a spurt of improvement is just too fast for the handicap system to keep up, it seems!

....see a gross 77 off a 21 H'cap for a nett 56. WTF?!!?! )

Doesn't happen in real life.....

(whoops, looks like it did :))

Do players off 21 play to 5 (or whatever?) on a good day?

I got hauled in front of the committee for making 45 points off 19 and only just avoided keeping my membership.

Firing squad for me. The player and the h'cap sec!!!

Was it his first comp of the year ? If not how did he do in the others ? If he plays regularly in your medals then for me you just have to tip your hat to him. Sometimes the putts just drop !

Look on the bright side, he won't be off 21 anymore. We had a guy in the first round of our Masters (invite only to comp winners over the preceeding 12 months) come in with somenthing like a nett 56 off about 20 and everyone thought he virtually had to get round (medal) without an NR to win. In the end I think his second round was close to 100 and he only won by 4 or 5 shots

As I said above, he plays comps regularly, so I think it was just an amazing round for him. I'm not complaining about it really, I was just making comment as I haven't seen such a low nett score since I started playing.

Hopefully I'll do the same one day! :)

So he scored the equivilent of 50 S/ford points. :D
If Master Beagley had shot gross 62 off 5, he would have still lost.
Someone recently posted a thread about bandits being a thing of the passed, here's proof they are still about and will be forever .... sadly.

Mike H, perhaps you could run a feature in the mag and get forumers to send in any rediculousosity net scores.

All I can say is I'm glad I'm not a member of Oak Park GC

P.s.
Rory with his amazing 62 yesterday only managed a poultry 46 pts.

He's probably not a bandit really because why would he try his hardest to score that well in just a measly monthly medal and not say a 36 hole open where there is serious wonga to be won? He's clearly not trying to protect a handicap by coming in so low.
Seems like he's either a fast progressing learner or just clicked on the day. He'll be off about 16 now.

I got a gross 69 off a 15 Hcp, net 54 with clubs that I'd only used once before. I know it's easy to slag off someone for putting the round of a lifetime together, he'll probably never do it again. I haven't since.

It can happen. I once started Par Par Birdie Birdie Birdie but then followed it with an 8 at a par three and finished within one shot of the duffer zone. Its a funny old game!
