Was gonna have a gripe in the random irritations thread but I'm hoping to get a solution instead.
How come, if you're watching a film and decide to record it halfway through does it record the whole bloody thing?
And then when you want to finish watching it, instead of switching straight to where you recorded from, it won't let you?
After having Virgin for 15 years and being used to their system the Sky box seems a bit daft, that is of course there's some random setting I haven't seen.
Answers on a postcard to 72 Fastforward Street.

To enable the rewind and pause facility the box starts to record content from when you change to a channel and receives uninterrupted content (I.e no channel change or PIN banners). This allows you to rewind programmes as it has the content cached.
It's just a necessary evil to let you use those facilities.

As has been said, flick channel up or down then back again and then record.
