Having just spent another Christmas with family, we're now convinced that we need a nice romantic Christmas away next year, just the two of us.
Nothing too fancy, just a nice break for 2 or 3 nights with no cooking, no preparation, just kick off our shoes and relax.
As I say, doesn't have to be too grand, just cosy, good food and drinks.

Lake District is lovely as is Devon and Cornwall

The Lakeside Hotel at the bottom of Lake Windermere is a lovely hotel

If you are ok going all the way to the bottom of Cornwall then the Harbour Inn is lovely in Portleven

If you don’t want to drive that far then Norfolk has some lovely places , Cromer and Southwold are nice

Or Fly to Edinburgh

We're off to the Lake District for my birthday in a few weeks time, renting a cottage near Ulverston. That's for a week so I don't mind driving that far, but for two or three nights, especially over Christmas, I was hoping to get something a bit closer, maybe the Midlands, Somerset, something like that.
Thanks for the input though ??

Shrewsbury - have a look at the 1984 A Christmas Carol - very Christmassy vibe especially if snowing on the cobbles!

Norfolk is nice

Some lovely places in the Costwolds ,

Somerset - Bath is very nice , or into the Mendips around Chedder

Bournemouth or Poole as well

Bradford upon Avon would be a great base. Handy then for Bath and Bristol but a lovely place in its own right. (Based on your suggested distance to travel)

One other thing to consider, especially if budget is a consideration, is to find a self catering accommodation and a nearby (walking distance) pub/restaurant doing a Xmas day lunch. Can also then do another pub meal or takeaway on Boxing Day to avoid cooking. Could possibly be cheaper to do that than for a Xmas hotel stay.

Eshott Hall just south of Alnwick, Northumberland. Good food, comfortable rooms.
Alnwick and Bamburgh Castles nearby together with a lovely coast.
Deals on Booking.com etc

Have a look at Staithes on the east coast . Mortimer & Whitehouse stayed there. It looked lovely so me & the mrs booked for the weekend in a pub in the village. You have to park your car at the top of the hill as only deliveries and odd car allowed. Had a great meal in the Cod & Lobster

Me and Missis T were looking to spend a long weekend in Shrewsbury. It looks gorgeous. It was bloody mega expensive for a hotel. It was far cheaper to travel to Poznan in Poland.

Bro in law for the last few years has booked New Year’s Eve weekends at various “village” hotels. Doted around the country. He loves them.I would be suprised if they don’t do Xmas weekends?
