Ok, so this year I hope to actually be able to go, and I will probably want to stay for a few days and get some good golf in.
I know that neck of the woods has loads of courses, but I don't know the area at all.

What courses would those in the know recommend, particularly good value for money and/or the must play courses?

Thanks

Camberley Heath (home of TXL) well worth a look. Bearwood Lakes very good (bit pricey unless there is any forum members you can get to sign you in although still good value for money)

Two good courses but a long way apart... Personally if you tell us where you intend on staying you could plan a 10/20 mile radius around that and narrow down the list plus give us an idea of budget will help? Wentworth want you to re mortgage to play what I think is an average track!!! There are dozens of other less know, good value but lovely courses to choose from.

I aim to stay somewhere close to the HFH course

So far there is around 13 of us booked into the Travelodge on Cove Road, Fleet, GU51 2SH. Some arriving on Saturday, most arriving Sunday and staying over Monday night with the hope of a game on Tuesday somewhere.

With numbers still increasing in that Travelodge, as far as I know there have been no solid plans made to play a round anywhere, as yet.

Hankley Common, Liphook, Hindhead, Blackmoor, Worplesdon and Woking.

Slightly further are Sunningdale, Wentworth, Swinley Forest and The Berkshire.

All of the above are excellent and if you were going to pick one then I would go for Hankley or if money is no object, Sunningdale.

Thanks guys.
I know it seems early to be bothering with these things, but a couple of golf breaks will probably be my only holidays this year, so want to make the most of them.
Hankley looks a cracking course - but tough (or is that an understatement?)

Hankley is a beautiful, fantastic golf course. Great lunch too. Tough? Not really. It is a very fair test and not all that difficult. It does have a set of purple tees that are used for Open Qualifying though and they make it extremely difficult. Off the normal tees though, it is as fair and enjoyable test of golf as you will find. Highly recommended.

Most of the top clubs only allow you to play with a member at the weekend, hence why are am trying to sort something out at Blackmoor for the Sunday. During the week you can pay a green fee, although it will be summer rates still, so could be expensive. Camberley Heath is reasonable, £50 from memory but you are looking at about £70 for Liphook (top course) and £90 at Hankley (even better) You can play West Hill after 3.00 for £50 I think. Should be just about enough light. Happy to recommend courses but it will depend on your budget. Best course in Surrey, St Georges Hill is about £150 a round !!!!!
