Evening all,

following on from my previous post about joining a club, I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for a club in the north east. Newcastle in particular. Obviously I dont want somewhere to hard to begin with and not to stuck up as im still a newbie.

Has anyone had any experiences with clubs in this region.

Cheers in advance

Am a member at Close House myself and have been since October last year. Was given a good welcome and found it easy to get involved with the comps.

Also one of the reasons I joined was due to the construction of a new championship standard course with completion at the end of this year. Also new practice facilities to be opened next month.

Have played Gosforth and found them quite rude in the shop and clubhouse and you need to carry your own rake around the course with you!!!! It's split down the middle by a burn and path. One side is quite interesting, but the other side is pretty boring, up and down parallel fairways with nothing but trees seperating them. It was in good condition, but I won't be rushing back.

What courses are local to you?

Quite a few really thats why it's quite a hard decision.

Newcastle United
City Of Newcastle
Northumberland Golf Club
Parklands Golf Club
Centurian Golf Club
Gosforth Golf Club
Backworth Golf Club
Tynemouth Golf Club
Whitley Bay Golf Club

Those are the closest within about 20 mins drive. Dont really want to travel any further just yet.

Ok I've only played parklands and Whitley my personal opinion would be Whitley, it's a great set-up has a linksy like feel to it but most importantly tends to be the only course open during heavy rain due to it having very sandy soil below it.

Hope this helps but a friend of mine joined about a year ago and he said there was a waiting list!
