Recommend me a hybrid please

What are your requirements for it mate? Replacement for an iron or just out and out distance?

If it's a direct iron replacement it's always best to go for a decent component head and shaft it with whatever you have in your irons so it's an exact replacement. So many people carry hybrids with graphit shafts an inch longer than their 3 iron and wonder why they hit it 20 yards further!

If you fancy it I can find you a head and shaft it up for ya to your exact specs. Be a pleasure seeing as your a local boy. ;-)

I went to google, keyed in my iron make and model + the word specification, and got to a site which had shaft length, loft and lie for my current 4i. Then looked at all the hybrid manufacturers to find a hybrid with the closest shaft model, length, and loft, and then bought that. At least I knew it would be the direct equivalent. It seems to have worked, as it goes the same distance as my 4i, just easier to hit.

There are plenty of Cobra Baffler DWS hybrids available on eBay at present. They are superb clubs, my favourite.

Nike slingshot tour is superb and available for about £50. I would definitely stick to the tour model though. the trouble is they are not manufactured any more so it is difficult to find the right club, it only seems to be extra stiff 1 iron replacements available! But if you look around you may find what you are after and you will be thrilled especially for the price.

Just looking at the Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK as its the same specs as my 3i but even steel shafts are £85, I am in kinda a hurry as I go to Spain a week on saturday and want a round this weekend before I go.

I have just done exactly the same, replaced my 3 iron with a hybrid. Just about all of my clubs are Callaway, but I went into this process with an open mind. The advice from my pro was to have approximately the same angle on the club as my 4i but with a hybrid you will get the extra clubs distance from its head weight/shape.

I now have a 25 degree Cleveland HiBore XLS (Gold) Hybrid. Absolutly sweet and is bang on where my 3i used to be ( when I could hit the bl**dy thing good enough !! ).

Well, if you're in that much of a hurry there's no chance I can build one! I'd have a look at the Fli-Hi's if I were you. You might pick one up off Fleabay with the same shaft as your irons.

Given a bit of time I'd probably build you something by Maltby. What do you look for? small head or more fairway type? Offset or not?

Its got to be the Cobra DWS Baffler. Best hybrid out there as far as I'm concerned (and I think I tried 90% of the models when I was looking for one).

It is long forgiving and great out of the rough or off the tee. Shop around and you should find one in your price bracket

If you are looking for new as opposed to Fleabay then I have tried and would recommend the Ben Sayers M8 (About £40.), the MD Eql (about £50.00) and the Benross VeloCT (my favourite and about £60.00).

If you know you specs for fitting then I would recommend an Orka Kii (now my favourite club). You can put your specs in on line and they will have to to you within 7 days. Cost about £60.00 depending on your choice of shaft and grip.

I'm guessing that you have Aldila NV 75 in your Benross tri-mass fairways.
In this case, please be careful with choosing a hybrid if it comes with grafalloy.....I tried finding a rescue and bought one with a shaft that was completely different to the rest of my woods. Personaly, my favourites are Aldila NV and the stock Taylor Made (fujikura?).

I was SO tempted the other day to buy a cheap 16* rescue at AG...but it had grafalloy, so I didn't. HOWEVER, I think the new Benross stuff (VeloCT) uses grafalloy now....horses for courses.

The new Benross gear does have Grafalloy shafts fitted. I find they suit me pretty well which is probably why I like MD kit as well as they use Grafalloy.

Thanks guys for all your help and advice, I was on the point of paying for a 23 degree Hi Hli CLK from Carlise golf shop at a cheap price of £80!! but took a step back and thought "how many times on a round will I use it on my home course?" so since I would use it 2-3 times a round I went for the Wilson deep red 22 degree at £25 and see how that goes. Once again thanks for all the help and advice.
