Im looking for some laptop help. I have just recently cancelled my sky tv subscription with the intention of watching any sport through relations sky go login details or direct streaming.

I am looking for a nice simple laptop with DVD player and decent size screen.

Other than that all I need it for is simple surfing.

Anyone know of any good deals out there or what sort of spec I would need.

Cheers

To be honest, if that's all you are going to use it for then http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271172166696?item=271172166696 wouldn't see you far wrong.
Decent connectivity, memory speed is ok at 1333MHz with 4GB and it's a fairly decent dual core processor (have one of the B960's myself and its fairly stable for most things). W8 64 bit with a 500GB hard drive for £290, can't be bad.

Might get one myself actually

Try to get something with a core i3 or i5 processor, i5's being slight overkill but will last longer before needing upgraded.
I have got a few Samsung 3 series laptops (330-375 price range) for some of our directors family members recently and have to say that the quality of them is right up there with HP at the moment. Cheap to mid end Dells (Inspirons and Vostros) are not worth looking at, I have seen way too many warranty repairs this past 3 years that it has completely put me off them.

If you were willing to pay a little more (400-450) the HP probook is a great series, I have bought a couple dozen of them for users in my offices and haven't had a single issue with one of them yet, the 4540s is the current 15" version and the 4740s is the 17" version (I have this one myself). They are generally specced with the following: Intel core i5 processors, 4 or 6gb ram, 320 or 500gb hard drives and bodywork is aluminium. Some places are offering £50 cashback also to sweeten the deal.

If you look around amazon etc you will still be able to buy one with Windows 7, most are preinstalled with 8 now though which is a terrible version of windows compared to 7 though I hear Microsoft are going to release a version 8.1 which addresses the common complaints ie lack of start menu etc.

Acer, Fujitsu, Asus and Toshiba (used to be the standard, but now very low rent feel with incredibly awful mouse buttons) are all reputable makes too though a little plasticcy but should serve well as a standard type laptop.

Yup it looks very likely.. Microsoft is preparing for a U-Turn on Windows 8 interface..
