I'm newish to golf and still on the driving range. I've already got a set of Irons, but now i want to invest in a Driver and a Wood.

Don't want to break the bank in case i break them in half at the driving range being an amateur!

Any recommendations for under £50 per club (I will be buying online)?

Also what degree driver should i be looking for to aid my development?

Thanks

In my humble opinion as a beginner I wouldn't bother with a driver just yet. I would get the best three wood you feel comfortable with.

I find that even when playing with more experienced but high handicap golfers my three wood is only marginally shorter than their drives.

3 wood all the way. For my first year of golf I used a 3 wood.
waste of time getting a driver, just get a really good 3 wood. Now that I do use a driver I have noticed that i'm not getting that much extra distance over other golfers who use a 3 wood.

Stick to a 3 wood. Considerably cheaper than a driver and will get you in play more often. Not sure about buying online without trying first. Might be worth going somewhere like American Golf and seeing if they have any deals or second hand ones and hitting a few first

Cheers guys.

What 3 Wood would you recommend to me within my budget?

I'd go to a shop with a driving range to test drive the ones in your price range and pick the one that feels best.

hi, yes i agree with all of the above go for the 3 wood, i didnt have a driver for my 1st year, and definatley try some out first if u can though just 1 tip, as a whole ping seem to be generaly easy to get on with for most golfers and my friend recently got a ping g2 3 wood for around £50 (maybe less) on ebay, there nearly same as ping g10 (i know someone who worked for ping who told me this) if u can try one of them in a shop ull get the idea, hope this helps

If you have a look at Online Golf you can pick up a Benross Veloct 3 wood for £39 or an MD Superstrong for £49. Having tried both of these I would have thought either would do you well for a few years

Spend an extra tenner and get a Ben Sayers Benny 3 wood for £60. I absolutely love mine. (I've got the Benny driver too but never use it. Until you're really comfortable with a driver forget it - stick with a 3wood)

Thanks people.

I've decided to get this...

Benross VeloCT Fairway Wood

Currently they don't have any in stock for right handers though. I nearly bought a left handed one by mistake!

I can't see them cheaper anywhere else, so i'll have to see if they get them in stock in the next week or look elsewhere.
