During half term have promised my son that we will play a couple of different course to our normal which is the Nottinghamshire, I have played most of the ones on the outskirts of Nottingham so want to go a bit further a field, up to 30 / 40 mins drive from South Nottingham but I don't really know much about any courses outside of Nottingham. nothing too grand and hopefully does 2 fore 1 but a decent challenge.

We are also going to be in my hometown of York so fancy playing there but again no nothing about courses there

If you haven't played Worksop, you should. Extract from an email circulated to Nottinghamshire clubs today:

"PS – we have had a lot of rain recently, I’m not sure how your course is holding up, Worksop GC is built on sand and is holding up very well, if any of your members would like to come and play Worksop GC before the end of March, I can offer them a reduced rate of £18 golf only, or £26 golf + a 1 course meal (please ring the pro shop on 01909 477731 ext 2 to make the necessary arrangements)."

Can recommend Hollinwell, quite near to Coxmoor.

Fulford is very nice, but I would say most of the area is saturated at present and quite a lot of places are shut and if not on temps.
If you want a quality track head toward Scarborough and play Ganton, or north Leeds about (30mins along a64) and Moortown alwoodey. Slightly less high profile is Leeds Golf Centre (wike ridge) so good deals to be had and they seem to be on full course too.

Have you played Wollaton park in the centre of Nottingham. Nice course and a surprise as its so close to the city centre. As other have said, coxmoor, hollinwell just north of the city. If you want to drive 1hr 15 come to Woodhall, even with all the rain the Hotchkin is in superb condition. If your lad is under 18 he will get on at junior rates.

Worksop is a nice course I preferred it to bondhay , but I played **** at bondhay so mite cloud my judgement where as I played great at Worksop , woolaton park is a great shout , Erewash valley is ok but pricey , horsley lodge is decent , breadsall priory is ok , or if yer desperate send me a message and I could sign you in on my track if it's a weekday

I could sign you in at my place if required, less than an hour from Nottingham, drains really well still on full greens and tees :)
My hometown is also York, Fulford is a good shout, my brother is a member at Strensall but knowing the course it will be very wet at the moment, Sandburn is a relatively new course, not sure how it is playing or how well it drains though.

Everybody plays bad at Bondhay!!! Never known anyone have a good round on there, one of the toughest most unfair courses I have ever played

Strensall is currently closed due to flooding has been a fair bit lately despite a whole host of measures to try and reduce flooding. They are looking at a partial reopening today but with the weather forecast this afternoon night it will more than likely be a shut again tomorrow. Sandburn is still maturing not a bad track and will get better with time I prefer Forest Park.
