One for the Boffins.

I have a John Lewis cordless phone (2 handsets) on my land-line which is knocking on a bit.

One of the handsets gives up the ghost after about 3 mins airtime even though it lives on its (holster) as Peter Kay's parents might have put it, all the time. I assume the batteries are cream crackered.

These are AAA 650mAh 1.2v Ni-MH apparently.

Now I see rechargeables (Duracell & Panasonic etc.) in Tesco and wonder if they're suitable for phones that live on a trickle-charger most of the time. Reading the back of the packet they seem to be designed to be charged up and then put in toys and cameras and so on and recharged when depleted.

Would they blow up if put in my handsets on continual charge? Do I need a special type non-supermarket?
