The Current Mrs 148's birthday yesterday and half the cards she recieved where either half opened or had been opened.

as it was her 40th a couple of them had badges, I'm saying had, as both were gone.

We both doubt there was any money in the cards to start with, but could this be why they were opened.

we have heard about Postal workers tampering with birthday cards, but never knew if it was true or not.

the other theory could be that the sorting machine didn't like the cards, two had badges and two raised stuck on lettering.

Anyone else had this?

I remember coming across something like this with metal badges that can't or shouldn't go through the normal postal letter system. I'll look for it.

That said, if they (RM) have opened them to remove them, they should reseal them with RM tape so you can see that they have been opened under supervision and security, after-all, was their any money in them?

I had a gift card nicked from a birthday card. My uncle sent it via the post and it arrived late and in one of those "Sorry, your letter has been damaged" sealed sellophane packs.

Don't get me wrong the Royal Mail is amazingly cheap for what it offers, but it annoys me that you have to pay a premium to guarantee your stuff doesn't get nicked, instead of them having a system in place that actually prevents that anyway!

if an envelope is opened or damaged they will put it in a new RM envelope with an explanation (sticker).....this sounds like it has happened after leaving the process of the sorting office- Contact your local postmaster general, they are very helpful and will investigate.

Postal theft definitely does happen and it's even worse in South Africa. They hid cameras in a sorting office and it was crazy how much stuff got opened and stolen. The workers complained about their 'human rights' being infringed when they were caught because they weren't aware that there were cameras and got away with it. I only ever send stuff home by courier. I last sentry mom a watch for her 60th and was calling every day to check and thankfully she got it. Was really worried about it.

WoW its an epidemic! Michelle Dewbry posted on twitter yesterday that her birthday cards were damaged and some opened! it was such a dramatic tweet that I felt compelled to stop following her:rolleyes:

I was a postman many years ago. A mate of mine was also a postman. It was back in the day of music and book clubs......... He had the finest collection of music tapes and books you could ever wish to see.....

Unfortunately this seems to be happening more and more, my birthday was in August and half my cards from family never arrived.
