Seem to be going backwards with my golf at the moment. Just cant seem to get into the right place at the moment!

When on the range all is going well, as soon as I step foot on the course..... disaster strikes!

Anyone know of any techniques to try and get in the right place mentally before and during a round?

Sounds like you're maybe putting a little too much pressure on yourself. Remember that we all play this game for fun at the end of the day! Just make sure when you're teeing off at the first to remember why you're there!

Do you hit (say) 10 or 15 drivers, then 10 3woods etc on the range?

If so, try only hitting one shot with a club and then move to another (you only get one go on the course). Try playing a round at the range, driver then an approach, then a pitch and so on.

If that doesn't help, smash it harder ;)

I find that when im hitting it good on the range but bad on the course its due to alignment. The bays / mats at the range align me nice and straight and I can easily fall into the trap of hitting away all lined up correctly. On the course , its a completely different story !!

I then go back to the range and try and hit at some targets across the whole range 9not just infront of the bay im in) and check my alignment with a couple of cane's on the ground.

Having similar issues throughout 2013. Went through a big change last winter in terms of club path and hitting it so much better. On the practice ground and range it is great and for the majority of holes I can get it round but suddenly I have a real killer hole and it dents my faith in the swing. Loads of 0.1 back so accepting I'm going to see 12 before I see 9 and just trying to have more belief and trust the work on the range I've done

On the course, forget about your scores for a month and concentrate on hitting good shots.
Once you get back to hitting 20 good shots a round you can start thinking about scoring again.

A range is a poor place to judge your ability to play golf, that can only be done on the course.
The range is useful if you are making adjustments to grip or swing [or both] and to keep your timing and rhythm in tune.

It happens mate , went for lessons to get lower and went back ways , the harder i fought it the worse it got , game was wearing me down .. was no fun and was as you said i was really frustrated ..

started to relax and accept it and it came back ,

Prob not much help , just sharing that we all go there and we all get through it eventually ..

go out and play with no pressure or expectation , accept the good with the bad and remember its only a game .. see how you go ..

Good Luck ,

Thanks for the comments,

Robobum - I'll try that, not something I have thought of before.

I most likely am over pressuring myself, a friend that I started playing with is wizzing down his handicap and I seem to be wizzing mine up! (although I know thats not possible fortunately where I am).

I'll try to take a more laid back approach and as TLB said just remember why I am there in the first place!

When you go to the range are you practicing the same thing all the time or are you tinkering your swing every time you go in an attempt to find something that works?

EDIT:

Furthermore, are you being honest with your assessment of your range performance? It is very easy at the range to be lenient with your definition of a good shot.

Also are you realistic , ie take shots on that are beyond your capabilities ! Start by playing each hole as a par 5 , you have 28 shots use them , knock 3 7 irons then chip and putt , what is your big major problem off the tee or irons or chip/putt

I try hard not too. I feel I take quite a conservative view on my shots. If its par 4 si1 I would play it as a 6. I try to use all of my shots.

At the moment my irons are what's letting me down. Used to be wedges that let me down but have rectified them. At the moment taking about an inch of turf with each iron shot, and going between 20-50yards. Tee shots used to be very iffy however seem to be a little more consistent here now.
