what would you all consider a realistic target for yourselves , i set myself the target of being low double figures idealy around 12 started the season at 24 so basicaly looking to halve my handicap.

playing 3 times a week and so far im on target, i know the hard part will be maintaining it.

carded 11 rounds so far this season and have droped 9 strokes.

I had a 23 handicap at the start of the season, hoping to get to single figures.
But I have a 10 week break in the summer in which every day will be golf.
Played two competitions and dropped 6 shots, so I'm also on track.

I got my first handicap of 28 last year but in the end didn't play any comps. This year I've set a target of 20 by the end of September. Anything lower than that is a bonus and I might treat myself to some new gear

I would expect someone young who has recently started playing, like AllyLodge to drop quickly. I think I can drop from 33 to the low 20s this season, mainly because although I have just started playing again and am now 60, I have played before, but time will tell.

My target is simply to drop my handicap, don't really care by how much.

So at the moment I'm looking at getting to six before the main summer season starts.

Started 18.4 and now 17.2 but looking for anything 14 and below. Takes a decent amount of comps with good scores to get down so playing probably once a week and not all comps then that is realistic for me. Will put in all legitimate cards comp or not so fingers crossed but hitting it reasonably well. Changing clubs/courses soon as well so not sure if that'll make it easier or harder. Will see.

When I first started 2 years ago I was given a handicap of 17, my aim was to get this to 14 within two years. After 18 months I was at 12!

Sadly now I am no longer a member of a club I struggle to get round in under 100! I just did not play for long enough to fully groove in the good swing I had, it was easily forgotten!

I would like to get to single figures this season which would be a 6.1 cut but fancy it's too much, would be happy getting to 11 or 12 which is achievable for me.

I do not think you are being unrealistic. Being off 24, all you have to do is keep it in bounds, not loose any balls and no 3-putts. I bet that could save you 10 shots a round. My mate started the season on 25 and is down to 20 already. I would not be suprised to see him heading towards 12 by the end of the season. He even played the medal today in driving rain and greens full of puddles and still carded a nett 71 (1 under). All he has done is learnt to keep it in play. Get back into play when in trouble, not trying a super hero shot to get to the green. Most importantly he has learnt to use a chip and run shot rather than trying to fly everything to the flag, removing the chance of fluffing chip shots. 3 very simple things, but so many high handicappers throw away shots by not doing them.

My target was to get a handicap this year then try and get it under 20........ then got my 1st one, 19 !!! - now to try and play to it and get as low as possible !!!!

Good luck to everyone for the season ahead !!!

If u play everyday during your summer hols young fella theres no reason u cant get down to single figures esp with plenty of practice thrown in.

OK, call me a cynic, but if you have dropped 9 shots in 11 rounds you should never have been off 24 in the first place - 3 times a week or not.

My target is to learn how to chip and then worry about handicaps. My club pro said be positive you don't become a bad chipper overnight. He's right - its taken months to get this bad. I don't actually like setting handicap targets as I find they become all consuming. I'd rather try and play well more consistently and let the good scores take care of the cuts

28 h/c last year. still 28 h/c but feel a much better player. Target is 20 by the end of the summer which I have played to numerous times in social games.

I have 2 weeks off now and every day will be short game practice followed by a round of golf, away next weekend at woodhall spa then the following weekend is monthly medal so hopefully the practise may see a decent score for once

happy to call you a cynic ha , reason i was off 24.6 was because that was what my handicap was , last time i played medal competitions,
due to work, im a soldier and spent the last 2 summers away on ops and therefore no qualifiying rounds played, i basicaly had 2 winters of playing golf on prefered lie and off matts, so just conentrated on technique , good swing and getting my distances nailed on

now im playing competiton golf again and handing in cards my handicap is tumbling , so obviously the winters work has paid off, i realise i will now reach a plateau and then the hard work realy begins to maintain that level

I started the year playing of 16.5, set myself a target of 12 this year. Shot a 79 yeaterday got cut to 13.2 so i'm on track :whoo:

I only joined a club for first time last winter and got a 20 hcap. Ive had 4 lessons and practiced a lot from then until now. Im yet to play in a hcap qualifying comp as our first one was cancelled yesterday. Im aiming to get down to less than 15 this season. My Personal best is 82 in a social roind so ive proved to myself i can do it on my day its just putting it into practice when i finally get in the proper comps.
