Reaching golfing goals and then setting new ones

I genuinely don't like to blow my own trumpet, however I had a really good medal day on sat (and didn't win !) and feel like sharing!

Our course is a par 67 and on Saturday I managed to score a scratch 69 this is the first time I have hit sub 70 and took my hcap to 5.6 if I had par ed the last ( I bogeyed it) I would have had a 68 and reached my goal of Cat 1 - 5.4 at least for a week! However it was not to be.

What I have done since staring playing golf in 2011 with a 20 hcap is set goals, the initial goal was to on an annual basis get the hcap down, over the years l have done that and to get to single figures in 2014 was memorable

My aim is to get to Cat 1 so hopefully that is something I will do and then push on from there, I am 46 in a few weeks so to a degree time is possibly not on my side but the effort, commitment and enjoyment will hopefully assist in my goal!

So what are your goals ? do you set them ?

Thanks for sharing. I only took up game in summer of 2014 and handicap wise I haven't progressed as well as I feel I should have. In bounce games I have done well from both medal and yellow tees and I think a lot of it is mental. I've got the rotella audiobooks and using them at the moment to help.

Can I ask how you managed to get where you are? In terms of how much time and days do you commit to practice, how much is range and how much is course practice? Also how many medals do you play a year on average? Anything else you can provide to help? I feel I have a big score on the horizon only to be gutted after each medal. I feel I should be an honest 18 handicap but medal card doesn't lie.

Hello I reckon I play over a 100 rounds per year, year to date I have played 41

I play in almost every Saturday medal.

My philosophy is practice I have a putting matt in the house I practice my short game at least once a week at the local paying fields, I do enjoy practicing and it makes such a difference, though I do get bored on the odd occasion I go to the golf range

My golf club is very friendly I have learnt so much from more experienced players.
And had lessons from the Pro.

Equipment have tinkered way to much with all clubs but I am now in a position where I am chuffed with what I have, though it has taken a while, got fitted for Callaway Irons and my Nike woods are just so forgiving and excellent clubs

I think because I took up the game at 40 I have a bit more patience and maybe more a willingness to learn and am not to hard on myself.

Have also been lucky enough to have had 2 hole in ones (a couple of years apart) it's brilliant when it happens.

I do work full time so when I do get the opportunity to play it so beats working. So I do try and make the most of it.

Good luck with you golf this season.
