Both my waterproof jackets failed [one after the other] to keep me dry yesterday. So today i'm trying a Nikwax detergent and Nikwax TX direct wash-in, waterproofing for wet weather clothing, fingers crossed they're dry enough to wear tomorrow.

Anyone used this product, and did it help ??.

it worked for a while on my proquip jacket. However after a bit it just soaked up the water and got heavy, never leaked through though. I prefer my galvin green as the water just beads off and never gets heavy and just pop it in the tumble drier and it as good as new again

Cheers, i would love to have Galvin Green stuff, but it would cost a fortune i carry both a short sleeve and a long sleeve jacket. So i'll the try reproofing at £5 a time and see how that goes.

Yes - i used it on mine recently.

It has improved it, but it's not a magic return it to brand new product. Unless I did it wrong!

Have used them on a Paramo jacket for 20 years now and they are the dogs danglies . Secret is to run the washing machine on empty for a cycle to clear out any soap residues then wash the garment you want to waterproof.

I've used them and they are OK. Not sure they return things back to fully waterproof but good if you have to wash dirty waterproofs.

I use it and find both products to work well, just remember to tumble dry them which activates the waterproofing.

I use the waterproofing Nikwax TX direct once every year.

I save a lot of money by not bothering with their washing liquid (which is not a detergent).

Never use a detergent or bio based washing powder/liquid it washes out any existing waterproofing just use any soap based powder or liquid. I use soap flakes.

Only tumble dry if the fabric label says you can.

Ironically I washed my GG teousers and jacket on them yesterday. Washed them in the h wash then proofed them in the purple topped stuff to re proof them.
That was after getting wetter than a cods cod piece on Tuesday.
Cannot tell you if it has done owt yet though.
Having talked to a pal of mine who is a bit of a Pleb. He reckons that is the way to do it, but to reproof every three or four washes.

Cheers Tash, That's mine washed, treated and now hanging out to dry ATM, maybe give one of them a shot in the tumble dryer. I hope i don't find out tomorrow if it has worked , the forecast is RAIN.
again , i'll let you ken

What are you guys doing to get your waterproofs in such a state that they need regular washing? I've had my GG jacket for about 10 years and it still looks like new. My trousers are Proquip, similar age, and the same applies. The bottom of the legs get a little muddy at times but I just sponge them down. Both have never been in a washing machine.

Both are perfectly waterproof still.

Stop rolling in the mud folks 😁

How dare you, they're not dirty  they just don't keep out the water after about 10 years worth of rain :smirk:. But the instructions do state, to wash them using ONLY their Special detergent before treating them with their Special treatment.
