Tour Winner
Well, Just back from Andrew Morris just outside dunmurry.
He was recommended by my club pro, so thought I'd get a look.
Got there, and its like an Aliddins cave for golfers, first impressions are very good, no pretense in the shop, so I am very at ease.
Met Andrew, and we had a wee chat, then we went and checked the clubs out. He asked what I had thout about, then discussed my current clubs.
We then had a 10 min consultation in which he went through shafts, club head design and ability., I explained that Iron play was my strong point but I felt that I wasnt able to get the most from my current set. I explained that I felt the shaft was not right, and so we looked further at shaft options, and decided that the kbs tour stiff would be good to try.
I went to the range to warm up, then Andrew brought out some clubs he had picked, Ping s56, r9tp both with kbs shafts, the tm burner 2.0 and an old set of ping s59 to try.
He watched me hitting balls with each of the clubs, all 6 irons. What I immediately noticed was that the shafts were a lot lighter and I felt I could hit smooth swings, where as with my irons I feel I really have to go after the ball to get the best results.
The ping s56 - wow, these look fantastic, I was very impressed. I hit these well, same distance as my current irons, but it didnt feel like as much effort. Penertrating flight, and felt like I had control.
The Tmr9tp - A touch heavier than the s56, good flight, similar distance but just not as good as the s56.
Burner 2.0 - shafts are longer than standard in these, they do not suit my eye at address, but are not bad looking. I was very suprised at the distance, they were a good club longer than mine and the other clubs I tried.
The s59 - Was very suprised at how good these were, went were they were supposed to, similar distance the s56 and looked ok, I really liked these too.
After hitting the balls went for a another chat, to go through the irons and my findings.
Andrew and I decided that my shafts were the problem, they are too heavy, and this does not help my bad shot, which is a push/block. I explained that I would like to try the mizunos and he explained that he would have a full cart in a few weeks time, and I could then call back and compare them to the s56 which were my prefered choice.
The kbs tour shaft stiff flex, seems to be ideal, so that is problem 1 solved.
There was not flight scope or monitor, we chatted, and tried clubs and chatted some more, I got to hit full shots on a range so I could see my flight and get a good feel for the different clubs.
I really enjoyed the experience with them, and the chance to try the clubs.
Now I need to decided wether to change the irons or change the shafts in my current clubs. If I change I think it will be to the s56, unless the mizzys knock my socks off!!
