Picked up my new 3 wood today and headed out to the practice ground. Hit maybe half a dozen shots and was amazed how scratched the black face was. Has anyone else experienced this or is it poor quality? Whatever, for that money I'll be seeing the pro tomorrow.

My TM Rescue 11 is scratched really bad from not cleaning balls properly but my RBZ driver barely has a mark on it. I make sure my ball is clean before every tee shot, I even carry baby wipes to clean the ball every few holes.

The original r11 was as bad, the amp stuff has a black covering which to be fair seems better quality than the covering on a tm.... The white chips pretty easy too

I had a 910 - same
I had a Snake eyes Viper Tour hybrid - same.
Cally Octane Black Tour - same.

These "fancy" finishes look great to start with but won't wear as well as a Titanium/Silver face.
It can make the club look tatty quite quickly.
Wedges are bad too - these "Oli" finishes last about 5 minutes. I had a CG15 in Oil Quench - 3 rounds later it looked 20 years old. Still performed but certainly looked well used.

Got to agree Imurg, I've got a RBZ hybrid as well as a set of Cleveland CG16 in 'black pearl', both mark up pretty badly but don't affect performance.

I've also got the Callaway Octane Tour Black, had it about 3 months now.

Not a mark on it, still looks pristine.

Imurg, have you tried using the middle of the clubface?

erm, golf clubs are for hitting balls with, not displaying on the mantlepiece ;)

you could always buy foam balls and hit them

Sez the guy who plays off 28... know loads about golf eh Gibbo?

Don't worry, I'll look after you at the weekend

Yep! I bought mine and i used it whilst we were on winter tee's and within a round the sole was scratched! Not good. Still a great club though!

I know how to put a sky mark or 2 on a club :) (see my 4 wood after my 1st on the dukes grrr)

My reply was tongue in cheek. I clean mine after every round and a bit OCD tbh so do understand, having only bought 2nd hand I am yet to go through the new shiny stage :D

You want OCD?? I clean them after every round (baby wipes are your friend here, they clean everything off of everything!) each one is done in numbered sequence backward from my 56, even the sole number gets cleaned (don't ask why, I have no idea) and I even use T-cut colour polish on the crowns of my driver, 3 and 5 woods and hybrid really small circles to get any scratches out buffed with a proper polishing mitt that was bought for the car but never used on it... It doesn't make me play better but it's somehow therapeutic to my tortured soul after a round :D

I saw one of the pro`s in Texas had a R11 or RBZ 3 wood he was using for a chip and the face was silver just about from use.

I have just got a new 910H 24 and I had not realized how much my 910H 19 had warn, the sole more than anything from mats and sandy tees but the face is faded too.
