Went to a Wilkinson Sword razor fitting session last week.
We tried all of their products and it appears the one best fitted to me was the top of the range Hydro 5.
Very expensive at £8.50 for four.
Do you think it is worth it?

Were you limited to just one brand?
I would never dream of using Wilkinson Sword. They're for old people, the Pings of the razor world.
Do yourself a favour and at least consider Gillette razors. The new ones (Fusion etc) are very good, with a wider range of handles available.
Another option is the good old cut throat blade, although this is only for the most experienced shavers. Some people think they can use a cut throat when they're really not good enough for it!

May I ask what foam you use? The better shavers tend to use shaving soap and a brush, but the general consensus seems to be to use any old foam until you're good enough to use the brush. You'll lose most of it down the plughole anyway!

Hope this helps.

Has to be gel really, scientists have proved that soap and brush users spend a whole 1.12% of their waking hours shaving as opposed to just 0.97% for us gel users.

I turn 50 on Thursday, time to start the beard, the wife's primary objection is how much food could potentially be trapped in it.

Beards are great as long as they're kept under control. A bit like the rough on the golf course, if out of control you can lose anything in it!

I have favoured the Desperate Dan look for 40+ years... Can't remember the last time I had a clean shave... Must have saved a fortune in razor blades and other shaving paraphenalia... Do like my ladies clean shaven though ...

I have a bit of a moral compass that stops me buying things when I think I am being ripped off.

I used to play with Gillettes but they became so expensive I swopped to Wilkinsons.
£2.00 for one blade seems a rip off.
Now Wilkinsons seem to have upped their price to the same as Gillettes.

I use good foam and a brush is that weird?
Don't really know what the top shaving Pros use.

Don't ever buy 'king of shaves' razors. They are rubbish! Got suckered In to a deal.. Rubbish. Gillette all the way for me.

I bought a Gillette razor with replaceable blades last year and despite shaving every second day I have only used two of them.

For a couple of years now I have been using a Razorpit sharpener, you put a little foam on it and after shaving sharpen the blades. I am generally very sceptical about claims but this has been an exceptional purchase and think that it is amazing, certainly more than paid for itself. www.razorpit.com is the website if anyone interested, ps I have no ties to the company

Looks a good product Alan which I imagine works just like the leather strop barbers use for their straight razors. It's a common misconception that straight razors are sharpened on the strop. Not so. The actual sharpening is done on a whetstone at the end of the day.

Cant you use whetstones in the morning?

Gillette Fusion are the best by a country mile. May be a couple of quid more but the blades last forever and the closest shave you will ever get. I tried loads of different brands and wouldn't go back to anything else. Like they say, its the best a man can get. The only negative is that they are so good the missus and daughters nick them to use on their legs !!
